Roy Keane was left unconvinced by Eberechi Eze’s performance for England in their win over Andorra, believing Thomas Tuchel will be expecting more from the Arsenal star.

Eze was handed a starting role in the no10 role as the Three Lions eased to a 2-0 victory over Andorra in Saturday night’s World Cup qualifier.

The former Crystal Palace star combined well with his new Arsenal teammate Noni Madueke who started on the right, presented with a chance to get himself on the score sheet in the first-half.

Early in the second-half, Madueke teed up his teammate with a rather tame effort saved by the Andorra goalkeeper.

Eze had an even better chance to score after 55 minutes with Marcus Rashford this time setting him up from the left only to blaze over the bar.

While Arsenal legend Ian Wright was satisfied with Eze’s performance at Villa Park, Keane insisted Tuchel would have expected a ‘higher standard’.

‘In some instances he stayed still and got on the ball, he had that opportunity in the first half where he did that and took the shot,’ Wright said.

‘He’ll be disappointed he didn’t do better with that, but as long as he is staying in that area, I am really happy.’

Keane replied: ‘The worry for me when we talk about players like this… I think he done okay.

‘But the manager will be saying “okay s not good enough. We need to be setting higher standards than that.”’

Speaking post-match, Tuchel appeared to share those sentiments, admitting the Arsenal star ‘struggled a bit’ with his decision-making.

‘We missed the little moments to accelerate the game,’ Tuchel said.

‘Maybe Ebs didn’t have his very best day in the no10 position. He trained so well in the decision making but struggled a little bit.

‘The last pass from Noni was not clinical enough, Rashford had some good moments but was not clinical and couldn’t finish them. We should have scored the second goal earlier.’

England are back in action on Wednesday night against Serbia in Belgrade.
