The 2025 edition of the RSM Classic enters as one of the final events on the PGA Tour schedule, giving it both prize-money value and strategic significance for players. According to the latest figures, the total purse for the tournament is $7 million.
That amount may seem sizeable, but what really draws attention is how that money is distributed– especially the winner’s share and how it contrasts with what many players further down the leaderboard take home.

Valimaki Leads, Chasers Lurking, and Winds Set to Shift
The storyline is dominated by Finland’s Sami Valimaki, who has positioned himself firmly in control at 19-under. His third-round 65 in challenging wind conditions not only launched him into the solo lead, but also placed him on the doorstep of securing a spot in the first two Signature Events of 2026. Yet despite holding the advantage, Valimaki is unlikely to enjoy a stress-free Sunday at St. Simons Island.
Saturday’s third round was the toughest test the field has faced all week. Whipping southwest winds forced players to value accuracy over aggression, and the conditions claimed their most notable victim in Andrew Novak. After starting the day as the overnight leader, Novak slid to a tie for fourth following a round of 70, dropping him to 16-under–three shots back of the lead. With forecasts calling for calmer breezes on Sunday, Novak and the rest of the chasing pack may find new life in the scoring-friendly setup.
Just two shots behind Valimaki at 17-under sits a familiar face at Sea Island: Patrick Rodgers. His third-round 68 kept him squarely in contention on a course where he has repeatedly thrived– finishing runner-up in 2019, T10 in 2023, and T17 in 2024. Another pair of strong finishes at Sea Island suggests Rodgers may once again be a serious threat as he searches for a long-awaited breakthrough victory.
Sharing T2 with Rodgers is Michael Thorbjornsen, who also posted a 68 on Saturday. Thorbjornsen, T8 last year, continues to build an impressive early-career resume and sits only two off the pace with a legitimate chance to claim his first PGA Tour title.
