The Seattle Seahawks have had quite a bit of turnover at quarterback over the past few seasons. After moving on from Russell Wilson in 2022, the Seahawks tasked Geno Smith with coming in and replacing him for the past three years. Now, Sam Darnold has been given the keys to Seattle’s offense after Smith was traded to the Las Vegas Raiders this offseason.
While the Seahawks handed Darnold a three-year, $100.5 million contract in free agency, they also selected former Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback Jalen Milroe in the third round of the 2025 NFL Draft. And ahead of his rookie season, Milroe received quite a unique gift from none other than Wilson.
Russell Wilson Sends Jalen Milroe Signed Seahawks Jersey
After Wilson left the Seahawks, he endured two rough seasons with the Denver Broncos before latching on with the Pittsburgh Steelers for the 2024 campaign. Wilson led the Steelers to a playoff berth, throwing for 2,482 yards and 16 touchdowns in 11 games of action, which helped him earn the 10th Pro Bowl selection of his career.
Wilson landed with the New York Giants this offseason, where he appears lined up to be their Week 1 starter. He may not be the same quarterback he was during the peak of his powers with the Seahawks, but his time with the team is still remembered fondly, as he is one of the franchise’s all-time great players.
Now, a new era of players is taking over in Seattle, and that includes Milroe, who is a big fan of Wilson’s. Upon finding out that Milroe looked up to him, Wilson sent a signed Seahawks jersey to the rookie quarterback, with the Giants slinger sharing a photo on social media alongside an inspirational caption for one of Seattle’s newest players.
“Go Shine Young 👑 @JalenMilroe,” Wilson said in a post on X. “Glad you like the jersey!”
Seahawks Looking to Develop Jalen Milroe Behind the Scenes in 2025

It’s clear Darnold is going to be the starting quarterback for the Seahawks for the next couple of seasons, considering the team’s massive financial investment in him, which gives Milroe time to adjust to the NFL behind the scenes. In 2024, Milroe threw for 2,844 yards and 16 touchdowns, while also rushing for 726 yards and another 20 scores. That sort of dual-threat ability is what made Seattle so interested in him as a potential investment quarterback during the draft.
Time will tell whether or not Milroe is able to develop into the player the Seahawks are looking for, but it’s great to see that he has the backing of one of the quarterbacks he grew up watching in Wilson. While he’s looking to find his footing with a young Giants team in 2025, Milroe will work on developing his game with Seattle so that when he gets a shot to take the field, he’ll make the most of it, which is precisely what Wilson managed to do early on in his career.
