The New York Giants have a lot to prove during their upcoming season, but it’s not all bad. Sometimes, you have to get to rock bottom to move up, and that was the case with the team during the 2024-25 season. They had a 3-14 record and were at the bottom of the NFC East last season, so there is literally nowhere to go but up.
Now, the Giants have a ton of new quarterbacks, although they’re all under the same head coach, Brian Daboll. The only quarterback returning to New York is Tommy DeVito, and he stands alongside veteran quarterback Russell Wilson, another veteran in Jameis Winston and rookie Jaxson Dart.
Dart will likely be the future of the team, but for now, the Giants can rest easy having Wilson in the fold. He’s been to two Super Bowls in his career, including Super Bowl XLVIII and Super Bowl XLIX, and won Super Bowl XLVIII in 2014 with the Seattle Seahawks. Now, Wilson is speaking out about how he feels going into the new season, and it should make Giants fans happy.
Giants QB Russell Wilson Feels Like He’s 25
Wilson is one of the most talked-about quarterbacks in the NFL right now, so it’s no surprised that he landed a big interview with Sports Illustrated. In the feature, published by Conor Orr on Tuesday, July 15, Wilson talks about how he feels heading into the new season. He also makes a major promise in that he says success for the Giants is “possible.”
“Honestly, I feel like I’m 25 years old all over again,” Wilson said. “And I think part of that is just physically I feel great. Mentally, I feel amazing in terms of, It’s possible. You know what I mean?”
He added, “And I think ultimately, a big part of it is the people you’re around, the players, the coaching staff, the mentality of the guys. And then being in the city. The energy of it is for people that like to be fast-paced, which is me.”
So, it’s comforting that Wilson is so jazzed about his new team and what’s ahead in New York. Let’s hope he can make some magic with this team.
Russell Wilson Has His Critics
Not everybody is so hot on Wilson. In a piece published on Tuesday, July 15, by Lou Scataglia of Broncos publication Predominantly Orange, he bashes Wilson and says that he actually feels bad for the Giants’ fanbase. C’mon, dude.
“You honestly have to feel bad for New York Giants fans, especially those who are actually believing in Wilson,” he says, adding that “it’s just going to come crashing down in the worst way, and perhaps that could force Wilson to hang up the cleats after 2025.”
Scataglia also made the prediction that Wilson will “again hold onto the ball for too long, take too many sacks, and not establish a consistent passing rhythm.” He adds that “the Giants also have the toughest schedule in the NFL, so not only is Wilson not going to play well, but the Giants are probably going to lose a ton of games, which could also lead to the veteran QB getting benched for Jameis Winston or Jaxson Dart.”
That’s a pretty dismal prediction, and Wilson doesn’t really warrant so much backlash. But, it’s understandable that the Broncos may have a bitter taste in their mouths towards Wilson.
