Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney plot shock move to bring Wales international to Wrexham after title-winning season

RYAN REYNOLDS and Rob McElhenney want to bring Portsmouth star Joe Morrell to Wrexham ahead of their return to League One.

The Red Dragons are set to play in the third division for the first time since the 2004-05 campaign after finishing second in League Two just 12 months after their return to the EFL.

The Welsh club’s Hollywood star owners Reynolds and McElhenney are determined to add even more quality to continue the dream journey with the Championship in their sights next.

According to The News, Morrell, 27, is now on Wrexham’s radar and is available on a free transfer.

The midfielder’s contract with Pompey runs out on June 30 and he reportedly isn’t interested in activating a clause to extend his Fratton Park deal by 12 months.

The Wales international was an integral part of John Mousinho’s squad this past season as he helped his team win League One and earn promotion to the Championship.

Morrell registered 31 appearances but his impressive campaign was cut short when he suffered a season-ending knee injury at Oxford in January.

The defensive midfielder underwent surgery and continues his rehab at the Blues’ training ground.

The Welshman is expected to be available for pre-season for whichever club he plays for.

Talks are still ongoing between the player and Portsmouth but his situation has attracted a lot of interest from Wrexham.

Reynolds and McElhenney are determined to add Premier League experience to their growing club ahead of next season.

So much so that the Always Sunny star has insisted that their bold offer to Real Madrid and Tottenham legend Gareth Bale is still on the table.

Wales hero Bale stepped away from football in 2023 but the Hollywood duo is stilly trying to coax him back to the game as he is only 34 years old.

McElhenney said: “Gareth Bale is still technically available! I don’t know, I made the plea last year and I’m just going to tell Gareth that the offer’s still on the table.

“We’ll let you off for golf, whenever you need to get off. As long as you come to training once or twice a week we can figure out how to get you 10 minutes on the pitch.

“And the golf courses – Wales is amongst the most beautiful countries in the world.”

Wrexham are also working to maintain Arthur Okonkwo within their ranks after his loan stint ended and Arsenal released him.

McElhenney added: “There’s a very good chance [of signing Okonkwo]. We’re talking to Arthur actively right now.

“We know he wants to come back to Wrexham and we definitely want him, so it’s just about working out the right deal that works for everybody.”
