Ryder Cup star Tyrrell Hatton revealed he ended up sleeping in his own sick after a wild night celebrating making Luke Donald’s European team.
Hatton has been a key figure in the past three European teams, but faced an uphill battle to qualify for the team this time after joining the LIV Golf in 2024.
But with the Saudi-backed tour still not receiving ranking points for their events, the World No25 had few opportunities to qualify as one of six automatic picks for Donald’s 12-man team.
However, two wins on the DP World Tour, combined with an impressive fourth-placed finish at the US Open, saw him cling on to an automatic spot and punch his ticket to his fourth Ryder Cup.
And Hatton, known to be a lively character both on and off the course, was keen to celebrate in style, especially as he received the good news on the same day that his Ryder Cup teammate Jon Rahm took home $20million for winning LIV’s end-of-season individual title.
‘Jon had just won the LIV individual title, so we had a bit of a tear-up,’ Hatton recalled. ‘Yeah, that was a messy night. I don’t ever want to get into that state again to be honest.
‘I had like six glasses of wine at dinner, and then I had a double gin and tonic, drunk that at a very normal rate,’ Hatton detailed. ‘And then Jon was deciding what he wanted and he said Disaronno Sours, and I was like, perfect, go on them.

‘They go down very easily. And then I was starting the chant of basically getting someone to down it, which then every cocktail that then followed was a shot.
‘So we then ran out of Disaronno Sour. The guy at the bar made some hazelnut sour which wasn’t great and there was a few of them. Then there was a margarita and then there was a strawberry vodka thing. God, it was aggressive. It was horrible. But I mean, it was funny at the time.’
And while making it back to his room in one piece, Hatton suffered the consequences of his actions when he woke up the next morning.
‘I fell across the bed sideways, and face down in that position, and then I woke myself up by throwing up in that position. Then I fell back asleep in that position,’ he added.
‘I had gotten sick all down my arms, both sides, all down my shirt. I get off the bed and walked around to the bathroom, looked in the mirror, and I’m sick on my face, in my bed. How I set an alarm to make a flight in a few hours’ time, I don’t know.
‘But yeah, waking up in a slightly more sober state was horrendous, and having to clean up that mess. I ended up calling my wife, Emily, and saying: ‘I don’t know what to do’.
‘I was rushing to make the room somewhat more acceptable before leaving. So I ended up stripping the bed, leaving some cash and a note, saying I was really sorry, I was sick in the bed in the night, please throw it in the trash.
‘I feel like I did the right thing but I was obviously in a pretty bad state. I do not ever want to feel as bad as I did that next day. Yeah, that was aggressive.’
