On Thursday September 4, 2025, CNBC posted information on the NFL’s Summary of Attendance Statistics and the information they shared about the San Francisco 49ers was fascinating.
First of all, the 49ers led the NFL with $176.5 million in net ticket receipts, which is the amount of money the team makes after taxes and other fees. That’s a whopping $40 million more than the #2 team, the Dallas Cowboys, and $67.5 million above league average.
But, that’s not because the 49ers sold the most tickets, or even close to it. The 49ers weren’t even top 5 in ticket sales. They placed eighth.
Instead, they made the most money by far because they charged the most for tickets. The 49ers had the highest average general admission price in the NFL at $190.78. In second place was the Super Bowl-winning Philadelphia Eagles at $184.27.
The second-highest earning team, the Cowboys, sold the most tickets of any team by far with 837,723. But their average general admission price was only $158.84.
The Positive Takeaway For 49ers Fans
For one thing, these numbers go to show that the “49ers faithful” truly do put their money where their mouth is.
Despite the disappointing 6-11 season, Niners fans still showed up to cheer on their team in large numbers.
They’re doing that again this weekend, as they’re set to outnumber Seattle Seahawks fans at Lumen field for the first time. They’ve somehow turned one of the most notorious home-field advantages in football on its head.
The Concern For 49ers Fans
But the same reasons why 49ers fans should be proud of this news could be reason for concern.
49ers fans probably aren’t thrilled to hear that even amidst a rough season, they were still getting charged more than any other team in the NFL to watch their team play.
Plus, it’s not like Levi’s Stadium is one of the best places in the NFL to watch a football game. With notoriously high temperatures and little to no built in shade for fans, it has been one of the most frustrating new stadiums in the NFL.
Especially while rival teams like the Los Angeles Rams play in state of the art stadiums like SoFi Stadium. SoFi opened only 6 years after Levi’s.
The Rams, who won the NFC West last year, had an average general admission price of only $104 at SoFi.
To top it all off, the 49ers have had a really stingy offseason financially. Their free agents that signed with other teams set a record for the most departing salary in NFL history. Meanwhile, the biggest free agent that the 49ers signed was backup tight end Luke Farrell.
It’s going to be a tougher pill to swallow that the 49ers didn’t retain more of their fan favorite free agents when Niner fans find out that they made the most money in 2024.
To give the 49ers credit, they did extend Brock Purdy, Fred Warner and George Kittle this offseason. They are also working on a long term extension for Jauan Jennings.
49ers fans, what do you think about this 49ers financial news? Are you happy for the team or feeling a little slighted as a fan?
