Scotland 1 Switzerland 1: Steve Clarke’s side keep Euro 2024 hopes alive as Scott McTominay scores in battling draw

SCOTLAND will almost certainly have to beat Hungary on Sunday if they want to avoid a group stage exit from Euro 2024.

Steve Clarke‘s men failed to hold onto a lead against Switzerland, ultimately drawing 1-1 and compounding more misery on their 5-1 thrashing by Germany last week.

The Tartan Army were full of hope when Scott McTominay‘s effort was deflected into the back of the Swiss net by Newcastle defender Fabian Schar in the 13th minute.

But those hopes and dreams came crashing down to reality just 13 minutes later.

Veteran star Xherdan Shaqiri, 32, scored a stunning long distance effort that rifled right into the top corner of Angus Gunn’s net.

They will now feel as though they need to beat Hungary to finish on four points in Group A in the hopes of advancing as one of the best third placed sides.

But they’ll have to try and do it without one of their best players.

To add injury to the insult of another poor result, star man Kieran Tierney was stretchered off with a suspected hamstring injury in the 60th minute.

Scotland now have a huge task on their hands to keep the dream alive in Germany.
