Scotland vs Switzerland – Euro 2024: Tartan Army take on the Swiss after Germany thrashing – stream FREE, team news

SCOTLAND come into their clash with Switzerland on Wednesday off the back of a chastening result on opening night – so a win against Switzerland is a MUST.

The Scots were embarrassed by the Germans in the first game of the Euros, losing 5-1 to the hosts.

After an uninspiring performance from keeper Angus Gunn, they were on the verge of going in at half-time 2-0 down before Ryan Porteous made matters worse.

His scissor tackle on Ilkay Gundogan gave away a penalty for the Germans to make it three and that also saw him sent off.

Porteous will miss Scotland‘s next two games as a result, with Grant Hanley likely to come in for him.

Switzerland was earmarked as the most winnable game for Scotland in Group A but they made light work of Hungary, beating them 3-1.

The Swiss are not short of talent throughout their team.

A spine of goalkeeper Yann Sommer, Manuel Akanji and Granit Xhaka stands them in good stead to reach the knockouts of the tournament.

Forward Breel Embolo also returned to the side from the bench and netted the third against the Hungarians, so they’ll fancy themselves against the Scots.

The match is taking place in FC Koln’s stadium in Cologne – which is also where Switzerland played their opener.

Team News

Ryan Porteous is suspended for Scotland following his red card against Germany.

He’ll miss the rest of the group stage.

Either Grant Hanley or Scott McKenna are expected to step in for Porteous.

Billy Gilmour did not make Steve Clarke‘s starting XI last time out and could come in to give Scotland some control in the midfield.

Denis Zakaria has been nursing a thigh injury for the Swiss but trained on Sunday and could still play a role.

Steven Zuber is a doubt for Switzerland as he continues to train individually.

Silvan Widmer and Remo Freuler are one card away from suspension.

Manager Murat Yakin also picked up a yellow against Hungary and needs to avoid another to prevent being suspended.

Yakin meanwhile said: “It’s important that we won our first game but I wasn’t so happy with our second-half performance, so we have to play better [against Scotland].”
