Scottie Barnes Passes Vince Carter With New Raptors Record vs Hornets

Scottie Barnes made more Toronto Raptors history on Monday night. During the Raptors’ home matchup with the Charlotte Hornets, the 24-year-old forward recorded at least one block and one steal for the 10th straight game, setting a new franchise record and passing Vince Carter, according to TSN’s Josh Lewenberg.

Coming into the Raptors vs. Hornets game, Barnes had already tied Carter by posting at least one block and steal in nine consecutive contests, a mark that stretched back to October 29. One more “stocks” game was all he needed to own the record outright, and he got it as Toronto opened a four-game season series against Charlotte at Scotiabank Arena.

Scottie Barnes Passes Vince Carter for Unique Raptors Record vs Hornets

The record Barnes just broke is a niche one, but it lines up perfectly with the kind of player he’s become for Toronto. The streak tracks consecutive games with at least one block and one steal, a simple way to measure consistent defensive impact.

Vince Carter originally set the franchise mark at nine straight games with a block and a steal. Barnes matched that number in Saturday’s road win over the Indiana Pacers, when he finished with 14 points, 11 rebounds, six assists, a block and a steal as the Raptors closed out a 4-1 trip.

Team game notes going into Monday’s matchup listed Barnes at nine in a row, officially tying Carter for the top spot in team history. Once he checked both boxes again against Charlotte, the streak reached 10 straight games from Oct. 29 through Nov. 17, giving him the record on his own.

The block-steal run is part of a bigger milestone week for the former No. 4 overall pick. Barnes recently became the first Raptor ever to reach at least 5,000 points, 2,000 rebounds and 1,000 assists by age 24, and he hit the 5,000-point mark in just 289 games, tying Kyle Lowry as the third-fastest player to do it in a Toronto uniform.

Those numbers help explain why Barnes is now regularly mentioned alongside franchise icons like Carter, Chris Bosh and DeMar DeRozan whenever new statistical milestones pop up.

What Scottie Barnes’ Defensive Streak Means for the Raptors

Barnes’ new record lines up with the way Toronto has been winning lately. The Raptors entered the Hornets game at 8-5, riding a three-game win streak and having taken seven of their last eight contests overall after starting the season 1-4.

During that stretch, Toronto has quietly posted a top-tier defense. In the two weeks leading into Monday, the Raptors ranked near the top of the league in defensive rating while also sitting in the top five on offense, a major turnaround from last season’s struggles.

Barnes is at the center of that surge. Before tipoff against Charlotte, he was averaging 19.7 points, 7.8 rebounds and 5.2 assists, plus 1.5 steals and 1.8 blocks per game — production that puts him among the league leaders in combined steals and blocks.

The 10-game stocks streak underscores how rarely Barnes has taken a night off defensively. It’s not just highlight-reel chasedowns or gambling in the passing lanes; it’s a steady drumbeat of rim protection and activity on the perimeter, game after game.

If he keeps piling up numbers like this — and now breaking records in the process — the All-Star and All-Defensive Team conversations around Barnes are only going to get louder as the season rolls on.

Raptors vs. Hornets Stats, Schedule & Context

Barnes’ record night arrived in a matchup Toronto was expected to control. The Raptors entered Monday at 8-5 overall and 2-2 at home, while the Hornets came in 4-9 as sizable underdogs on the road.

The schedule doesn’t get easier for Barnes and the Raptors after this one. Toronto is set to travel to face the Philadelphia 76ers on Wednesday before returning home for games against the Washington Wizards and Brooklyn Nets, part of a stretch that could help them solidify their early-season climb up the Eastern Conference standings.

For now, the focus is on another checked box for their franchise cornerstone. In a season where Barnes has already joined some of the biggest names in team history on the career leaderboards, he now owns a defensive record by himself — and he did it on a night when Raptors vs. Hornets was already in the spotlight.
