Scottie Scheffler Sends Clear Message on Being Late to Tour Championship

Scottie Scheffler’s third round at the Tour Championship did not go quite as planned with the putter as the world No. 1 golfer has some work to do heading into the final round at East Lake. Heavy Sports has been at East Lake throughout the Tour Championship, and no golfer has drawn a crowd quite like Scheffler.

Yet, Scheffler has some work to do in order to win back-to-back Tour Championship titles. Heading into the final round, Scheffler is four strokes behind co-leaders Patrick Cantlay and Tommy Fleetwood.

During the August 23, 2025, broadcast, it was reported that Scheffler was late to his third round tee time. Scheffler dismissed the idea as “no big deal.”

“They also said on the broadcast that you were a little bit late to the first tee. Was something happening?” a reporter asked Scheffler on August 23.

“Not really. I was maybe a minute later than I normally am,” Scheffler responded. “No big deal.”

Scottie Scheffler on Putting Struggles at Tour Championship: ‘It’s Not Bad Breaks’

What may be more of a concern is Scheffler missing several putts the star normally sinks. As for the struggles on the green, Scheffler seemed a bit puzzled as to the exact reason as evidenced by his frustration on the course.

“It’s not bad breaks,” Scheffler told reporters following the third round of the Tour Championship. “I felt like I just was barely off on my reads. Hitting a lot of good putts. Hit the one on — hit a good putt on 12, looked like it hopped off something; burned the edge on 13; made a good one on 15; burned the edge on 16; 17 I hit two good shots in there.

“I’m putting right across the middle of a spine where the ball is going to break off of it all the way to the hole, so that was tough. Then two good shots into 18. Overall I did some good stuff. I just need to capitalize on it.”

Tommy Fleetwood on Chances to Get 1st PGA Win at Tour Championship: ‘I Love That I’m Up There Again’

Elsewhere on the leaderboard, Fleetwood once again has a chance to notch his first PGA Tour win. Fleetwood has had a few close calls in 2025 only to end in heartbreak on Sunday. The veteran golfer is maintaining a positive attitude that the Tour Championship could finally be his big break to raise an elusive trophy.

“Well, it’s where everybody wants to be when you tee it off each week,” Fleetwood explained to reporters on August 23, following round three. “You want to be in the final group on Sunday or you want to be in contention. I love the fact that I’m playing so well. I love the fact that I’m getting rewarded for my work by being in this position because we all grind so hard, we all practice so hard, but it’s been so long where you don’t get out of it what you put it. Golf just isn’t like that.

“I love that I’m up there again, and it’s just another chance. It’s another opportunity. It’s another day where I get to go out and do what I love and enjoy it and be in contention and just go and hit the golf shots, and what is like the best pressure, if you like. We’re trying to win a golf tournament and do something very special.”

Tommy Fleetwood Is the Favorite to Win the Tour Championship Heading Into Final Round at East Lake

Could Fleetwood finally end the drought on Sunday in Atlanta? The Vegas odds seem to think so as Fleetwood is the favorite to win at +160 heading into the final round, per FanDuel.

“I am lucky enough that I get to be one of those guys (30 players competing at the Tour Championship), so I’m having the time of my life out there and I’m playing great and I’ve got to enjoy it while it’s happening,” Fleetwood added. “You never know. Tomorrow might be my time, it might not, but I’ll still have a great time doing it.”
