Seahawks Abruptly Cut Ties With Speedy Playmaker Just 1 Day After Signing

The Seattle Seahawks made a few complicated roster moves in the days leading up to the team’s Sunday Night Football showdown against the Washington Commanders. Seattle previously released running back Myles Gaskin to sign playmaker Velus Jones Jr., but these moves was written in pencil, not pen.

Just one day later, the Seahawks reversed course by re-signing Gaskin and cutting ties with Jones. Apparently, Jones did not make the best first impression, or Seattle simply wanted to prioritize a more traditional running back.

Jones is a return specialist who has experience playing both wideout and running back. The speedster ran a 4.31-second time in the 40-yard dash ahead of the 2022 NFL draft.

“A day after they released him Seahawks sign back former Washington Huskies running back Myles Gaskin to the practice squad,” The News Tribune’s Gregg Bell detailed on October 30, 2025. “A day after they signed him to the practice squad, they release RB Velus Jones Jr. Apparently Jones didn’t exactly wow in his 1 day at the VMAC.”

Here’s what you need to know about the latest Seahawks roster moves, news and rumors.

Myles Gaskin Has Struggled to Find Sustained Success in the NFL

Gaskin is a familiar face given his standout college football career with the hometown Washington Huskies. The playmaker had four straight seasons posting more than 1,000 rushing yards for the Huskies.

Gaskin’s NFL career has been a bit more complicated. After being a seventh-round pick selected by the Miami Dolphins, Gaskin has been a bit of an NFL journeyman. In addition to the Seahawks and Dolphins, Gaskin’s previous stops include the Los Angeles Rams and Minnesota Vikings.

The running back’s best season came with the Dolphins in 2021. Gaskin posted 173 carries for 612 rushing yards and three touchdowns on the ground. The playmaker added 234 receiving yards and four touchdowns through the air in 2021.

Will the Seahawks Strike a Trade at the Deadline?

Given the Seahawks’ success to start the season, Seattle are potential buyers ahead of the NFL trade deadline on November 4. Former Pro Bowl corner Riq Woolen has been a frequent name in ongoing trade rumors.

NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reported that Seattle is now unlikely to cut ties with Woolen ahead of the deadline. Woolen will be a free agent in 2026 putting his future with the franchise in doubt.

“From @NFLGameDay Kickoff on the pending trade deadline, with the Giants telling teams Thibo-no on Kayvon, the Seahawks more likely to hang on to CB Riq Woolen than trade him and WR Jakobi Meyers still waiting out his trade request with the Raiders,” Garafolo noted in an October 30, message on X.

Jayden Daniels Is Expected to Play vs. Seahawks on Sunday Night Football

The Seahawks defense will once again need to be on point as Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels is expected to play in the Sunday Night Football clash. Daniels had been sidelined with a hamstring injury and is now set to face an imposing Seattle defense.

The Seahawks will get a boost by once again wearing the team’s throwback uniforms in primetime. Seattle is a 3-point favorite versus Washington in the SNF matchup, per FanDuel.
