In November 2024, the Seattle Seahawks sent a 2026 fourth- and fifth-round pick to the New Orleans Saints to acquire Rashid Shaheed. Nonetheless, the main question that the Seahawks will ask themselves is whether they want to keep Shaheed long-term.
Shaheed has had 13 catches for 178 receiving yards in seven games for the Seahawks since the trade. However, his impact has come as a return specialist. He already has one punt return and one kick return touchdown for Seattle.
Additionally, the 27-year-old is racking up 793 all-purpose yards in the seven games for the Seahawks heading into the final two games of the regular season, per Pro Football Reference.
With his future uncertain after this season, Kay Adams asked Shaheed about the possibility of staying in Seattle.
“I for sure do,” Shaheed told Adams on the December 23 edition of “Up & Adams.” “I feel like they brought me here for a reason, and that’s to be here for a minute. That’s the goal.”
Moreover, Adams shared that she would like to see the wideout stick around with the Seahawks beyond this season, given how the two parties have fit since the trade.
“You are a free agent after the season,“ Adams added. “I’d like to see you stay there [but] I know it’s business.”
Seahawks’ Rashid Shaheed Talks Playing in Seattle
The Seahawks standout also spoke about playing in Seattle over the last few weeks, especially after the remarkable Week 16 comeback win against the Los Angeles Rams.
“It feels amazing,“ Shaheed said. “The 12s are a rowdy group… The energy that they bring is crazy, honestly. It gets loud, it gets wild. Rains, sleet, snow, whatever. They’re going to be in there, and it’s going to be rocking. That Thursday night game was a perfect example of that. Not a seat was empty throughout the whole game.”
Rashid Shaheed Opens Up About Klint Kubiak Reunion
One reason Shaheed has hit the ground running after moving from the Saints to the Seahawks is that he has reunited with offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak in Seattle. Shaheed spoke about what his reunion has been like as he’s become an impact player for his new team.
“Obviously, being familiar with him, being comfortable around him,“ Shaheed added. “He always believed in me in New Orleans, and it was a ton of fun working with him, and now getting a chance to work with him here.
“We felt like we haven’t missed a beat at all. It took a little bit just to get the offense back into my brain and learning the system again. But yeah, ever since the first couple of weeks, I feel like it’s been a smooth transition with him. It’s been fun.”
After beating the Rams in Week 16, the Seahawks are in the driver’s seat to win the NFC West. Nonetheless, they have two challenging games to wrap up the regular season. Seattle will be on the road against the Carolina Panthers and the San Francisco 49ers.
If they win out, they’ll claim the division, but any slip-up will allow the 49ers and Rams to have a shot at winning the NFC West.
