Seahawks Get Major Update on WR Cooper Kupp Ahead of Week 9 ‘SNF’ Game

Ahead of a big showdown on Sunday Night Football against the Commanders, the Seattle Seahawks got some surprising injury news on WR Cooper Kupp. The Seahawks are coming off their bye week tied for first in the NFC West division with the Rams at 5-2 — both teams are a half-game up on the 5-3 49ers.

Kupp popped up on the injury report this week and Seattle head coach Mike Macdonald gave an update on Kupp’s injury, as well as the team’s full injury situation, during his press conference on Friday. “Okay, I’ll just go ahead and start with the injury situation,” Macdonald said. “Let’s see here, [S] Julian [Love] is out, [WR] Dareke Young is out, [TE Eric Saubert] is out, and then I guess we’re listing [G] Christian Haynes as out, and [WR Jake] Bobo is out. And then [WR Cooper Kupp] and [ED] Jarran Reed are questionable for the game.”

“You know, Coop and Bobo’s [injuries] just happened in practice,” Macdonald continued. “It’s unfortunate. We’ll see with Coop and hopefully those guys will be back soon and we’ll get some guys ready to go to have a great opportunity in front of them.”

Kupp was listed as a full participant in Wednesday’s practice, but was limited on Thursday and did not practice at all on Friday. He’s dealing with heel and hamstring injuries and is officially questionable for Sunday’s game.

The best division in football this year is easily the NFC West. The Rams were the favorites coming into the season, but the Seahawks and 49ers closed that gap quickly. All three teams sit within a half game of each other, and the Cardinals can still make up ground if they go on a run here.

In the coming weeks, the Seahawks play the Commanders, Cardinals, Rams, Titans, Vikings, and Falcons. That’s not a daunting stretch, but Seattle closes against the Colts, Rams, Panthers, and 49ers. Those four games to finish the regular season might determine Seattle’s playoff fate — if they can beat the teams they’re supposed to along the way.

Seattle Seahawks Rookie WR Tory Horton has a Big Opportunity This Week

With Bobo and Young both out for the Commanders game and Kupp listed as questionable, rookie WR Tory Horton has a huge opportunity ahead of him. The Seahawks have five receivers on their active roster, and while Jaxon Smith-Njigba is the superstar of the group, Seattle likes their depth and Horton has been a bit buried on the depth chart despite playing well when called upon.

“Tory [Horton]’s been great,” Macdonald said on the rookie out of Colorado State. “He’s had a great attitude, there’s a sense of urgency about him, there’s an attention to detail. The veterans in the room have been great with him. There’s more opportunities for him though, you know? I think that’s clear, I think that’s a fair statement.”

On the season, Horton has nine receptions for 113 yards and three touchdowns. He hasn’t caught a pass since Week 5 against the Buccaneers.
