On NFL trade deadline day, the Seattle Seahawks made one of the most significant moves, acquiring Rashid Shaheed in a trade with the New Orleans Saints on November 4.
Moreover, the move, which saw the Seahawks send 2026 fourth- and fifth-round picks to New Orleans, provides the team with much-needed depth at the wide receiver position behind Jaxon Smith-Njigba.
Despite the Saints’ struggles this 2025 NFL season, Shaheed has caught 44 passes for 499 yards and two touchdowns through nine games this season. Furthermore, the 27-year-old receiver also reunites with offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak, who was New Orleans’ offensive coordinator last season.
As a result, CBS Sports’ NFL analyst Matt Ryan isn’t holding back how much he loves this “home run” deal for the Seahawks.
“I think the Seattle Seahawks hit a home run,” Ryan said on the November 9 edition of “The NFL Today.” “I really think Rasheed Shahid is a home run hitter in the passing game that they can have; I think he probably, of anybody in the trades, has the biggest impact on the field this year.”
Rashid Shaheed Talks Seahawks Move
Shaheed’s arrival in the Pacific Northwest drops him in a tight division race as the Seahawks are battling the Los Angeles Rams and San Francisco 49ers to win the NFC West. On November 7, the new Seattle wide receiver spoke about the emotions of being traded.
“It was a bittersweet feeling, but I knew I was ready for it,” Shaheed said of the trade (h/t Seahawks.com). “Just staying prepared, it’s still the same game of football. It’s exciting, and I’m excited for this new city and new environment, and I’m ready to go win some games.”
“It’s going to be great; I got a glimpse of how this team operates. Super explosive, super fun. I’m excited to play in front of the fans at home for my first game. Just pure excitement.”
“It’s been really smooth being here with Coach Kubiak and getting a feel for the offense again; it’s been a good transition… It’s all familiar, it’s all starting to click in my brain, and I feel like it should come back pretty quick and shouldn’t miss too much at all.”
Mike Macdonald Gives Honest Words on Rashid Shaheed
While Shaheed is jumping on a moving train and looks to develop chemistry with quarterback Sam Darnold, it helps that he knows the offense that Kubiak is running with the Seahawks. Kubiak spoke about what he’s seen from Shaheed as he gets adapted to life in Seattle.
Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald spoke about what he’s seen from the former Saints star in his first handful of practices.
“He’s doing great, just keeps attacking it,” Macdonald said. “It’s one of those deals where he has done a great job so far and the prep won’t stop until all the way through game time. We’ve got a plan for him, and I can’t wait to see him play. He’s done a great job.”
It will be interesting to see if this addition can prove to be a difference maker for the second half of the season and tilt the NFC West race in their favor.
