What a time to be in Seattle. The Seahawks are coming off a 38-37 “Thursday Night Football” overtime win over the Los Angeles Rams, and thanks to that win, the Seahawks’ standings are at the top of the NFC West. Just under them is the San Francisco 49ers, followed by the Rams, with the Cardinals bottom feeders this season.
A big part of the Seahawks’ success can be attributed to second-year head coach Mike Macdonald, who was hired in January 2024 and has helped turn the team around in less than two seasons. One of his smartest moves for this season was signing quarterback Sam Darnold from the Minnesota Vikings, and it’s proved a good fit.
There’s just something about Darnold this year that makes you smile a little wider when you watch the Seahawks play. It’s the way he carries himself, with confidence, determination and a heart that feels so genuine you can almost feel it through the screen. He doesn’t just lead the offense; he lifts everyone around him, like he’s constantly saying, ‘We’ve got this,’ without ever needing to shout.
He plays with emotion in the best way. Every throw feels intentional, every comeback full of hope, every moment on the field touched by how much he truly cares. You can see it in his eyes. He loves this game, he loves his team, and he’s grateful for the chance to shine. That kind of sincerity? It’s impossible not to appreciate.
Now, Darnold is coming up the possibility of making NFL history. He may do it on Sunday, December 28.
Sam Darnold of the Seattle Seahawks Close to NFL Record
Darnold is on the verge of becoming the first quarterback in NFL history to have back-to-back 13-win seasons for two different teams, according to research from NBC Sports. That would simply put him in a new tier of quarterbacks.
“Just winning 13 games in back-to-back seasons is a rare feat for a quarterback: The only quarterbacks with consecutive 13-win seasons are Aaron Rodgers (from 2019 to 2021 with the Packers), Peyton Manning (2012-13 with the Broncos), Tom Brady (2010-11 and 2003-04 with the Patriots) and Brett Favre (1996-97 with the Packers),” Michael David Smith of NBC Sports’ Pro Football Talk noted in a Wednesday, December 23 feature.
So, he could make that happen on when the Seahawks take on the Carolina Panthers on Sunday, December 28 in Charlotte, North Carolina, at Bank of America Stadium in Week 17.
Seattle Seahawks Made the Playoffs Early
It’s so exciting that the Seattle Seahawks have already clinched a playoff spot this season. After an incredible 12–3 record and taking first place in the NFC West, Seattle has locked in its postseason berth, something the franchise hadn’t done since 2022. That thrilling 38–37 overtime win over the Rams not only secured their playoff spot but also put the Seahawks in position for the NFC’s No. 1 seed, meaning a potential first-round bye.
Statistically, Seattle has been dominant on both sides of the ball, with a top-five scoring offense and defense this year, giving fans so much to cheer about as postseason football nears. For longtime 12s, this feels extra sweet, watching this team rise, grind, and earn a playoff berth early is the kind of heart-pounding, joyful proof that this season was built for greatness.
This season, Darnold has helped the Seahawks glow. Not just win, but believe. Believe in themselves, in each other, in the magic of second chances. He reminds us that heart matters just as much as talent.
