Seahawks Sign Veteran Tight End to Contract Extension Ahead of Colts Game

The Seattle Seahawks have emerged as one of the most dominant teams in the NFL this season. With a 10-3 record, they are currently engaged in a tightly contested battle atop the NFC West division with the Los Angeles Rams. These two squads may just be the two best teams in the league, which makes their upcoming Week 16 meeting extremely important.

First, the Seahawks need to get through Week 15, and before they made it to the field for their contest against the Indianapolis Colts, the front office made a big decision involving veteran tight end Eric Saubert. While Saubert’s main goal as of late involved getting himself off of injured reserve, he managed to land a new contract from his team ahead of this important contest.

Seahawks Sign Eric Saubert to One-Year Contract Extension

Saubert broke into the NFL back in 2017 as a fifth-round pick of the Atlanta Falcons. After spending the first two seasons of his career with them, Saubert has bounced around the league quite a bit, as the Seahawks are the eighth team he has played for throughout the course of his nine-year career in the league.

On the surface, it may not seem like Saubert is a very impactful piece for Seattle, as he’s suited up for just seven games, catching one pass for 12 yards. However, Saubert has been used as an extra blocker in both the pass and run game this season, and his contributions have not gone unnoticed by the Seahawks’ front office.

Saubert has missed the past six games with a calf injury, but he was activated off injured reserve ahead of the team’s Week 15 action, as he appears set to return to the field. As if that wasn’t good enough, Saubert also earned himself a one-year contract extension, ensuring he will stick around with Seattle beyond the 2025 season.

“Sources: The Seahawks have agreed to a 1-year contract extension with TE Eric Saubert,” NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported in a post on X. “Saubert, who was designated to return from IR this week, is well regarded for his quality run and pass blocking. Future depth secured for Seattle at the tight end spot.”

Saubert isn’t exactly a game-changing player for the Seahawks, but he knows his role on the team’s offense, and he fills it well when he is called upon. You need good depth in order to win championships, and Seattle has done well to not only identify a player that fits its scheme but also find a way to keep him in town.

In Week 15, the Seahawks have an intriguing matchup against the Indianapolis Colts. After losing Daniel Jones to a torn Achilles tendon in Week 14, the team lured one of its former quarterbacks, the 44-year-old Philip Rivers, out of retirement to come play for them, and he will start under center for the Colts in this game. What Indy’s offense will look like is a mystery, but if Seattle simply plays its version of football, it should walk away from this one with win No. 11.
