The Seattle Seahawks have been hearing some trade rumblings about one of their best players during the offseason – running back, Kenneth Walker.
At least that is what is being suggested by media and analysts. Indeed, Matt Holder of Bleacher Report wrote last month that the Seahawks should consider trading Walker in exchange for draft picks prior to the start of the regular season.
“Walker is entering a contract year and has had declining production since his rookie season.” Holder wrote on July 16. “Meanwhile, Zach Charbonnet was more efficient in 2024, averaging half a yard more per carry than Walker…especially if he doesn’t have a future with the club, getting something for the 2022 second-round pick wouldn’t be a bad idea.”
And while the team would still have Zach Charbonnet and rookie seventh round pick, Damien Martinez, the loss of Walker could certainly turn the position into a bit of a liability – something that head coach, Mike McDaniel will not want to happen, as Seattle navigate their first season under new quarterback, Sam Darnold.
So in this trade proposal, the Seahawks swap the potentially outbound Walker for New York Jets running back, Breece Hall.
Breece Hall Could Be Available For Trade For Seattle
According to Bleacher Report’s Alex Kay, Hall could be one of the more likely players on the move – indeed Kay believes he is one of the four most likely to submit a trade request in the coming weeks prior to the trade deadline.
“With 2022 classmates Sauce Gardner and Garrett Wilson re-upping with Gang Green on new deals this summer and Hall entering the final year of his rookie contract without a similar extension in place,” Kay wrote on Wednesday, “his future with the team may be in jeopardy.
There have been rumblings that the 24-year-old may not even last the remainder of the campaign, with Tony Pauline of Sportskeeda noting the RB could be moved by the Nov. 4 trade deadline.”
Kay believes that in addition to contractual inaction from the Jets; due to new head coach, Aaron Glenn’s commitment to running a three-RB rotation, Hall’s touches will likely decrease, leading to an increased desire on the RB’s end to move on.
“A diminished workload, coupled with contractual unhappiness, could lead to Hall asking to be traded in the early weeks of the upcoming season.”
Why A RB Trade Swap Makes Sense For The Seahawks
It feels, similar to receiver Garrett Wilson, that much of his sheer ability has been wasted away for the first portion of his career in New York, with the former second round pick having managed just 876 yards on the ground last season, despite starting in all but one regular season game.
It feels like a fresh start is needed for Hall, much like it is for Walker. And for the former Michigan State man – whose vice over the past three seasons has been seemingly constant injury – has been staying healthy, a larger back rotation makes sense in order for him to reduce his on-the-field workload and thus the chance of re-injury.
Hall – on his end – has the ability to be a top tailback in the NFL, and if he can thrive under a more stable regime in Seattle; working in tandem with Charbonnet and Martinez behind what should hopefully be an improved offensive lin; it could be a very profitable move for both the Iowa State grad and the Seahawks.
Seattle Seahawks receive: Breece Hall
New York Jets receive: Kenneth Walker III
