Shedeur Sanders Gets Worrying Browns Update Amid Myles Garrett’s Comments

The Cleveland Browns arguably have the most interesting quarterback decision to make around the NFL. With a healthy Dillon Gabriel, Kenny Pickett, Shedeur Sanders, and Joe Flacco, as well as Deshaun Watson when he eventually returns from his Achilles injury, there’s no telling what Cleveland might do.

Some have suggested that one of the youngsters will get an opportunity, while others believe that the Browns will look to win games instantly with somebody like Flacco.

According to Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com, there’s internal hope that Flacco will be the guy. She reported that Flacco currently has an edge, and superstar Myles Garrett loves him.

“Flacco has an edge in the competition by virtue of his half a season here, and his intimate knowledge of coach Kevin Stefanski’s offense and the Browns’ personnel…

“He’s already felt the love from Browns fans, and has the full support of big-time veterans such as All-Pro defensive end Myles Garrett. Flacco might not get many as many snaps in practice as the others because he doesn’t need them, but the Browns know what he can do,” she wrote.

Will Cleveland’s Young QBs Have a Chance at the Starting Job?

Regarding some of the younger guys for the Cleveland Browns, allowing Gabriel or Sanders to compete for the starting job during the training camp might not be the worst idea.

However, according to Cabot, if one of the youngsters gets an opportunity to play, it’ll likely be Gabriel.

That might come as a surprise to many Browns fans, as Sanders was better than him in college, but there’s a reason why he went in the third round, while Sanders went in the fifth. The Browns clearly had him higher on their draft board, or at least made it seem that way.

“But he operated the offense efficiently, demonstrating an early grasp of the terminology and complex concepts. If the Browns decide to go young at the outset, Gabriel would likely get the nod over Sanders. The Browns are excited to see how he performs in the three preseason games in August, with the rookies slated to get plenty of playing time in most of them, especially preseason Game 2 vs. the Eagles.”

Sanders Unlikely to Get Playing Time

Sanders continues to get all of the attention for the Cleveland Browns, and rightfully so. He’s one of the most marketable players in the NFL and hasn’t even played a snap in the league.

However, for Sanders, it’s impossible to say what could happen for him over the next few months. If Sanders gets an opportunity to play, he might have a chance to do something special.

According to Cabot, it isn’t likely that he’ll get a chance to play for now. It’s possible that he’ll get a chance to show that in training camp, so he’ll have to run with that if he wants to be the starter in Week 1 or in the future.

“Sanders, who brings plenty of star power and media attention to the Browns, knows that flying down the highway twice in the span of 12 days won’t help his cause, but the Browns will likely keep him firmly in the mix, at least for the first three weeks of training camp.”
