Shedeur Sanders sent a clear message to himself after his second-straight start for the Cleveland Browns.
Sanders remained the starting quarterback for the Browns, despite Dillon Gabriel being cleared from concussion protocol. In his second start, Sanders didn’t turn the ball over, but he didn’t have much success, either.
Following the 26-8 home loss to the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday, Sanders shared some criticism he has of himself.
“I just gotta be better overall,” Sanders said postgame on Sunday. “I gotta be able to rally everybody together when adversity is hitting.”
It’s a clear message from Sanders as he wasn’t happy with his performance, or how the team played either, as he felt like he should have made the offense have more success.
Sanders went 16-of-25 for 149 yards and a touchdown in the loss, and was also sacked three times. The Browns’ rookie held onto the ball too long at times, which has been an issue for him dating back to college.
Despite his poor performance, Sanders will remain the starting quarterback for the Browns in Week 14 against the Tennessee Titans.
Browns Remaining With Sanders at QB
Although the Browns suffered a lopsided loss to the 49ers on Sunday, Cleveland will remain with Sanders at quarterback.
After the game, Stefanski confirmed that Sanders will remain the starting quarterback in Week 14 when the Browns take on the Tennessee Titans.
Yes,” Stefanski said postgame on Sunday when asked if Sanders will remain the starting quarterback.
Although Stefanski named Sanders the starter for next week, he wouldn’t confirm if he will remain the starter for the rest of the season.
“I’m not going to get into that, other than we all have to get better,” Stefanski added.
Stefanski believes there are things Sanders can build on from his second start. But there are also plays he wants back, and he believes Sanders will learn from it.
“I’d have to look at it. He’s battling; all our guys are battling. I know there are plays he’d want to have back. We’ll look at it, we will correct it,” Stefanski added.
The Browns had just 253 yards of offense against the 49ers.
Sanders Puts Jerry Jeudy on Notice
After the blowout loss, Sanders also sent a clear message to star receiver Jerry Jeudy.
Sanders said he needs to build more trust with Jeudy throughout the week and help get the connection on track.
“Overall, it’s about spending time in those situations and being able to gauge,” Sander said. “It was just a missed shot. When I miss that shot, I have to stay on myself to keep shooting. … Of course, you want to get him the ball, but you’ve got to understand it takes time. I’m more of a trust person. That’s just what it boils down to. We have to spend time on task with all those guys and be able to see things out of the same lens.”
This was also just the second week of practice that Sanders had with the first-team offense, so he knows it will take time to get going.
“We ran the ball very well. When we got into passing situations, it wasn’t the best. It was a comfort level I think,” Sanders said. “As players and teammates, we have to be able to gel with each other and be comfortable in every situation. That takes time and a lot of things. It’s not going to be a microwave thing. It’s going to take time to be able to develop that chemistry with everybody and to be on the same page with Jerry.”
The Browns will host the Titans on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.
