The countdown is officially on for the 2025 SHEIN Women’s Football Awards.

The biggest awards night in the women’s football calendar is taking place on Thursday, 1 May, celebrating the stars of the game, both on and off the pitch, with some serious A-list sparkle thrown in.

Metro is an official media partner for the event, which is now in its third year as it continues to go from strength to strength.

‌Ahead of the ceremony, which is headline sponsored by SHEIN for a third successive year, here are six things to look out for.

Broadcasting royalty on hosting duties

This year’s event boasts a trio of football royalty behind the mic. BBC broadcaster Gabby Logan, known for fronting major sporting events with class and insight, joins to host alongside Liverpool icon Jamie Carragher, whose punditry is as sharp as his tackling ever was, and former Lioness Eni Aluko, a trailblazer both on the pitch and in the studio. Expect wit, wisdom, and a whole lot of football knowledge from the stage.

‘The Women’s Football Awards is Europe’s biggest awards event for women’s football and every year it just keeps getting bigger and better,’ Aluko said.

‘I’m excited to be hosting the event again this year with Gabby Logan and Jamie Carragher. It is going to be a really inspiring evening as we celebrate those contributing to the phenomenal growth of the women’s game.’

Star-studded turnout

Get ready for red carpet glamour. Pop icon and Pussycat Doll Kimberly Wyatt will be bringing the party vibes with a live DJ set at the official after-party.

Among the famous faces expected to attend are Spice Girl Melanie C, TV favourites Paddy McGuinness, Alex Scott, and Roman Kemp, plus chart-topping singer Pixie Lott. With football stars and celebrities rubbing shoulders, it promises to be a night to remember.

Player of the Year: A hotly contested race

The Player of the Year category is shaping up to be one of the most competitive yet. Chelsea’s Lauren James, Manchester City’s Bunny Shaw, Arsenal’s Alessia Russo, and Vivianne Miedema are all in the running –  and with the public deciding the outcome, anything could happen.

Lauren James has had a phenomenal season, while Russo remains a firm fan favourite. Shaw’s continued goal-scoring form has her in the running to win the top award for a second successive year, but the public vote could swing in any direction.

The Women’s Football Awards have always showcased allyship and that includes support from the men’s game. Past attendees include England captain Harry Kane, Declan Rice, Tyrone Mings, and Conor Coady.

This year, eyes are on Manchester City’s Jack Grealish, who’s widely tipped to show his support in person. Expect strong representation from across the Premier League once again.

The awards will once again pay tribute to the pioneers who paved the way. In recent years, Carol Thomas and Kerry Davis were honoured for their groundbreaking achievements in the sport.

This year’s Lifetime Achievement Award will go to a figure who has truly smashed the glass ceiling for women in football. The identity of the recipient remains under wraps but will be revealed on 1 May.

The return of the famous SHEIN goody bags

Back by popular demand, the iconic SHEIN goody bags are set to sparkle again. As proud partners for the third year running, SHEIN will be gifting winners with an exclusive selection of luxury treats – from champagne and chocolate to vouchers and fashion must-haves.

These glitzy bags have become something of a collector’s item, and 2025’s edition promises to be the best yet.

The Women’s Football Awards is backed by a number of organisations including The Premier League, VISA, ScottishPower, Morrisons, Cadbury and Applied Nutrition.
