The Philadelphia 76ers will be without one of their key players against the Golden State Warriors on Thursday, December 4.
Paul George is listed as out on the official injury report due to left knee injury recovery. George has appeared in three straight games for the Sixers after sitting out November 25 against the Orlando Magic. He carried a questionable designation into Tuesday’s contest against the Washington Wizards with knee and back issues, but he ultimately played and posted 11 points and five rebounds in 18 minutes.
The back issue has been dropped from the injury report, but it appears the Sixers are still managing the left knee for the forward. Thursday’s game is the first of a back-to-back for Philadelphia, who will travel to play the Milwaukee Bucks on Friday, December 5.
George has been impactful for the Sixers in six games this season, averaging 13.5 points, 4.8 rebounds and 2.8 assists while shooting 41.2% from the field and 35.3% from three.
Paul George Injury History
George sustained an injury to his left knee during an offseason workout and underwent surgery, forcing him to miss the first 12 games of the season.
After he signed a four-year, $212 million contract in free agency during the summer of 2024, his first year in Philadelphia was marred by knee and adductor injuries, resulting in the nine-time All-Star having one of the worst years of his NBA career (he averaged 16.2 points in just 41 games).
George also suffered a major injury in 2021 when he was with the Los Angeles Clippers, tearing the UCL in his right elbow, which forced him to miss 43 games. And the gruesome lower leg injury he suffered in the summer of 2014 during an intrasquad scrimmage with Team USA continues to hang over his career.
Given his injury history, Philadelphia is likely going to manage his workload throughout the 2025-26 season. If the Sixers are going to make a run at the NBA Finals, they are going to need the six-time All-NBA player healthy for the postseason.
Philadelphia 76ers Trying To Get Fully Healthy
The Sixers have been impacted by injuries to a number of key players in addition to George this season, and they are just now getting back to full strength.
Rookie star VJ Edgecombe missed three games with a left-calf injury but returned on Sunday, November 30 against the Atlanta Hawks. He had seven points and two rebounds in a restricted 21 minutes. For the season, the Baylor product is averaging 14.7 points, 5.8 rebounds and 4.2 assists.
Former MVP Joel Embiid had been out of the lineup since November 8 with right-knee soreness, but he also returned against the Hawks and scored 18 points with four rebounds in a season-high 30 minutes (the Sixers were fined $100,000 for failing to disclose his status properly ahead of the game). Embiid was held out of Tuesday’s game against the Wizards and is listed as questionable for Thursday’s contest. He is averaging 19.4 points, 5.3 rebounds and 3.1 assists this season.
