Skylar Diggins Sends Strong Message to Aces After Snapping 17-Game Win Streak

With their season on the line on Tuesday night, the Seattle Storm picked up a thrilling 86-83 victory over the Las Vegas Aces in Game 2 of their first-round playoff series. Thanks to some clutch heroics from Skylar Diggins, the Storm were able to pull off a big second-half rally against the Aces, forcing a winner-takes-all Game 3 between the two teams.

The unlikelihood of this victory for Seattle is tough to ignore, as they overcame a 14-point second-half deficit against a Las Vegas team that had won its past 17 games. After the win, Diggins made it clear that the Storm aren’t backing down from the challenge ahead of them, issuing a message that will surely catch the Aces’ attention.

The Storm snuck into the 2025 WNBA Playoffs as the No. 7 seed, and a big reason for this was Diggins’ play for the team. In her 11th season, Diggins averaged 15.5 points, six assists, and 2.5 rebounds per game while shooting 42.3% from the field, earning the seventh All-Star selection of her career.

After Game 1, Seattle didn’t appear to have much of a shot at beating Las Vegas. A’ja Wilson dominated for the Aces, scoring 29 points and hauling in eight rebounds, helping lead her team to a dominant 102-77 victory. Considering the run they were on, it seemed like the Storm were toast, even as they shifted back to their home court for Game 2.

Thanks in large part to Diggins (26 points, seven assists) and Nneka Ogwumike (24 points, 10 rebounds), Seattle was able to force a do-or-die Game 3. Diggins iced the game with a clutch midrange jump shot over Jackie Young late in the fourth quarter, and in the wake of this win, she made it clear that the Storm have no plans of backing down from the Aces in Game 3.

“I mean, nobody’s found the answer to this equation for what, 16, 17 games?” Diggins said after the game on “SportsCenter.” “But for us, it was coming out and showing that we weren’t scared to play against them. You can respect a team of that caliber who’s been great all year, who’s been great for many years, and not fear them. I thought first game, we played hesitant, and I was proud of the way we responded tonight.”

Even with this win, the Storm still have their work cut out for them moving forward. They will have to return to Las Vegas for Game 3, and after falling behind big in both games, they will want to do what they can to keep the game as competitive as possible in the early going. As they proved in Game 2, if they can stay close late in the fourth quarter, they will have a shot at pulling off a shocking upset victory.

Going up against a star-studded squad led by a perennial MVP candidate in Wilson is obviously tough, but with Diggins leading the charge, Seattle has a real shot of winning Game 3. All eyes will be on the Storm to see if they can send the Aces packing, with tip-off for this game being scheduled for 9:30 p.m. ET on Thursday night.
