South Korean golf sensation Si Woo Kim has firmly shut down swirling LIV Golf rumors and announced he is staying with the PGA Tour, delivering a major blow to the Saudi-backed breakaway circuit’s recruitment efforts.
The four-time PGA Tour winner, linked with a potential move to the controversial rival league, publicly rejected an offer and confirmed his commitment to compete on the PGA Tour as the 2026 season approaches.
The Rumors and the Rejection
For the last week, the golf world buzzed with speculation that Kim, one of Asia’s most accomplished male golfers, was poised to defect to LIV Golf, the league that has aggressively courted PGA Tour talent. Reports suggested Kim was in “late-stage negotiations” with LIV Golf and could have joined the newly rebranded Becko East GC (formerly IronHeads GC).
However, in a dramatic reversal that stunned many, Kim’s camp confirmed to South Korean media that he ultimately declined the lucrative LIV Golf offer, choosing instead to continue his career on the PGA Tour. According to team representatives, “It is true that Kim Si-woo, like many Korean players, has been offered a recruitment. However, Kim Si-woo finally expressed his intention to refuse and decided to remain on the PGA Tour.”
Kim, also, responded to the LIV Golf speculation with a simple Instagram post. On Friday afternoon, the South Korean golfer announced he would be competing in the PGA Tour’s Sony Open in January.
“Okay guys see you in @sonyopenhawaii,” Kim wrote, committing to the event he won in 2023. While Kim did not address LIV directly, the post was widely viewed as a signal that his focus remains on the PGA Tour, at least through the beginning of the 2026 season.
Recruiting Miss for LIV Golf
Kim has been a fixture on the PGA Tour since joining in 2013, amassing a string of impressive results that have made him one of the sport’s most respected players.
At 30 years old and ranked in the Top 50 (No. 47) in the Official World Golf Ranking, Kim represents a valuable asset for any tour. His career includes four PGA Tour victories, including a historic Players Championship win, and consistent performances in majors and worldwide events.
Had Kim committed to LIV, it could have significantly boosted the breakaway league’s credibility and appeal, especially in Asian golf markets where his popularity is strong. Instead, his loyalty to the PGA Tour underscores the resilience of the traditional tour despite ongoing poaching efforts.
Kim was not the only South Korean player caught up in LIV Golf speculation. Sungjae Im was also rumored to be a potential target, but his camp moved quickly to shut that down. Speaking through management company All That Sports, Im said, “it is not true at all to go to LIV Golf. We are focusing on preparing for the PGA Tour next season, and there is no change related to our future career path.”
So far, LIV Golf has added only two players with pending PGA Tour status for the 2026 season–Victor Perez and Laurie Canter–underscoring the challenges the league has faced in attracting established PGA Tour talent this offseason. Still, LIV’s recruitment push may not be finished, as teams have until February 4 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, to finalize their rosters for 2026, leaving the door open for additional movement in the weeks ahead.
