Steelers Predicted to Land DK Metcalf Help With 19-TD Big Ten WR

The Pittsburgh Steelers picked up a big win in Week 14 with a 27-22 victory over AFC North rival Baltimore Ravens. That puts them atop the division for the time being, setting up for a playoff berth.

But there’s still four weeks left in the regular season, so just about anything can happen — especially in a division that’s been owned by the Ravens the last two years. Not to mention the Steelers haven’t won it since 2020 and only twice since 2017.

Despite the Steelers hoping for another playoff run, it’s never too early to start thinking about the future of the team, beginning with the 2026 NFL Draft. As of right now, Pittsburgh would hold the No. 20 overall pick. And many, including Pro Football Focus’ Trevor Sikkema, believe they’ll be leaning toward offense.

“The Steelers need to figure out their 2026 quarterback situation first and foremost,” Sikkema wrote. “But with Fernando Mendoza and Dante Moore now off the board, and with it feeling increasingly likely that Arch Manning and Ty Simpson return to school, I’ll have them addressing another major offensive need at wide receiver.”

Seeing as how Aaron Rodgers, 42, is likely playing his last season, the natural thought is that Pittsburgh would pursue their next signal-caller. But depending on where they pick, that may not be realistic. The best option could instead be getting DK Metcalf some help.

Steelers Predicted to Draft Wide Receiver With 2026 First-Round Pick

The Steelers haven’t exactly been an offensive juggernaut. After Week 14, Pittsburgh ranks 27th in total offense, 24th in passing, 28th in rushing and 15th in scoring. This has been a consistent theme for several seasons, yet they still can’t figure out the offensive side under defensive-minded head coach Mike Tomlin.

Pittsburgh can be commended for adding Aaron Rodgers and trading for DK Metcalf — although that ultimately sent George Pickens to the Dallas Cowboys — but watching the playmakers outside of Metcalf, or the lack thereof, makes it obvious the Steelers need perimeter help. That could arrive in the form of Washington Huskies wide receiver Denzel Boston with the No. 19 pick.

“The Steelers have had no dependable option outside of D.K. Metcalf this season, and that’s exactly what the smooth-moving 6-foot-4, 210-pound Boston can be for them,” Sikkema wrote. “He has earned an 87.1 receiving grade this season with an impressive 89.8 receiving grade against man coverage.”

Who Is Washington’s Denzel Boston?

Ever since Washington’s national championship run two seasons ago, the Huskies have faded from the national spotlight. With an 8-4 campaign in 2025, Big Ten contenders like Ohio State, Indiana, Michigan and Oregon grabbed most of the headlines. So it’s understandable if Steelers fans aren’t overly familiar with Boston.

In 2025, Boston led Washington in receiving with 56 catches for 755 yards, averaging 13.5 yards per reception with 10 touchdowns. He ranked ninth among Big Ten receivers and 67th nationally. For his career, he has 126 catches for 1,655 yards and 19 touchdowns, averaging 13.1 yards per catch.

None of that should discourage Steelers fans if this becomes the pick. As Sikkema noted, Boston is a big-bodied target who wins in man coverage and, more importantly, takes pressure off Metcalf.

Metcalf is blowing away every other Pittsburgh receiver this season, recording 444 more yards than Calvin Austin III, who sits at No. 2. The Steelers’ second-leading pass-catcher overall is actually running back Kenneth Gainwell, whose 50 receptions are just two behind Metcalf.

So, yeah, it’s obvious that the Steelers need more receiver help.
