Steelers’ Roman Wilson Opens Up About WR Trade Rumors Ahead of Week 8 Game

It’s that time of the year in the NFL. With the trade deadline just a week and a half away on November 4, trade speculation is running wild across the league. Contending teams are looking to add the final piece to a potential championship run, teams snake-bitten with injuries are looking for reinforcements, and teams falling out of playoff contention are looking to sell off pieces to recoup value ahead of their rebuilds.

There’s another category of trade speculation, too: young, talented players who have fallen down the depth chart on their current teams who might benefit from a change of scenery. That’s where second-year Pittsburgh Steelers WR Roman Wilson falls in this discussion. A former third-round pick out of Michigan, Wilson was a key part of the Wolverines’ national championship team in the 2023 college football season. There was a lot of hype when he joined a Steelers teams in need of help at wide receiver.

The Steelers have been heavily linked to a receiver ahead of the trade deadline. Pittsburgh is 4-2 with a healthy lead in the AFC North, benefiting from all the injuries on the Ravens and Bengals rosters. The team knows they’re in a very limited contention window with veteran QB Aaron Rodgers — who says he plans on retiring after this season — and they want to go “all-in” for a Super Bowl while they can. To do that, they’ll need more than just DK Metcalf producing at receiver, and they know that.

Ahead of the Steelers’ Week 8 primetime Sunday night game against the Packers, Wilson spoke with Brian Batko of the Post-Gazette. He discussed his lack of production in Pittsburgh so far, as well as his thoughts on all the trade speculation surrounding him.

“Honestly, since I’ve been here, since the day I was drafted, there’s been speculation,” Wilson said. “So it’s nothing new to me. It’s always been like that. I feel like it’s just something you always deal with, but it just doesn’t really affect me. I don’t think it affects any of the other receivers, as well,” Wilson added, referencing all the trade speculation about Pittsburgh adding a new receiver.

“I feel like — let me choose my words wisely — the player they drafted, I’m still that guy,” Wilson continued. “I don’t wanna say anything wrong. I’m just gonna leave it at that. The player they thought they drafted, that’s who I am.”

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Roman Wilson has Struggled to Break Out in the NFL

Despite a booming college career, Wilson has never fully been able to get his legs under him in the NFL. Part of that could be due to a mix of injuries, as he dealt with a series of injuries as a rookie that kept him off the field. For his career, Wilson has four catches for 36 yards, all of which have come in 2025. He had two catches against the Bengals in Week 7.

As a senior at Michigan, Wilson had 48 catches for 789 yards and a monster 12 touchdowns. If he’s able to return to that form for the Steelers, they’ll be very happy with the player Wilson is.
