The Dallas Cowboys have one of their most challenging games of the year coming up against the Denver Broncos on October 26 in Week 8, perhaps showing them where they stand as a team.Â
At 3-3-1, the Cowboys have beaten some decent opponents, including the Washington Commanders in Week 7. While everything hasn’t gone as well as it can be for the Cowboys, mainly due to the problems on the defensive side of the football, quarterback Dak Prescott has done everything possible to ensure his team has a chance to win every week.
This year, he’s been just as good as any quarterback in the NFL, throwing for 1,881 yards, 16 touchdowns, and just three interceptions. The Cowboys star has passed for 13 touchdowns and thrown no interceptions in his last four games.
Some believe he’s currently the favorite to win the MVP Award, including Stephen A. Smith of ESPN, who said that he considers Prescott a top-two candidate for the MVP and that the Cowboys will be a playoff team.Â
“Are you sitting down? … The Dallas Cowboys are going to the playoffs. Dak Prescott is going to be a top-two candidate for MVP honors,â he said.
Cowboys Put All Their Faith in Dak Prescott
Smith believes Jerry Jones showed his trust in Prescott by adding George Pickens while letting Micah Parsons and Rico Dowdle walk, signaling him to make plays just as he has all year. So far, Prescott is rewarding Jonesâ faith by delivering on the trust the Cowboys owner showed him over the offseason.
“You know, I didnât like how he handled the Micah Parsons situation,” Smith said.
“We have to be fair to Jerry Jones, who we obviously are consistently critical of. This man wanted his money bet on Dak Prescott. He wanted Dak Prescott ⦠Jerry Jones is all about his way. And his way is, I gave this man $60 million to go out there and make me look good. Iâm riding with youI can afford to make the sacrifice here; I can afford not to do this here; I can afford to let Rico Dowdle and get away ⦠I can afford to let Micah Parsons go ⦠I can afford to do these things because I got you, I got you, and, by the way, I got you (George) Pickens too to go along with CeeDee Lamb.”
Is Dak Prescott the Favorite to Win the MVP?
Team success will always be a bigger priority for the Dallas Cowboys than Prescott winning the MVP Award. However, if somebody had said before the year that Prescott would win the MVP and the Cowboys would be in the postseason, many wouldâve considered it a positive year after deciding to move on from Parsons.Â
Prescott is playing well when some of his notorious haters are going on record stating that he deserves to be up there in the MVP odds, including Colin Cowherd, who has typically ripped Prescott and the Cowboys for some of their shortcomings.Â
“He’s 9th in MVP odds. That’s insane! He’s gotta be near the top,â he said.
