Stephen Bunting reveals his dad’s DIY is behind unique throw ahead of World Darts Championship semi with Luke Littler

But when he first burst onto the scene, his unusual throwing technique caught the attention of viewers.

Rather than standing in the centre of the oche, Bunting takes a step to the right and throws from a different angle.

In a recent video on his YouTube channel, the Bullet revealed he got into the habit of doing it because the dart board he used as a kid was off-centre.

He explained: “This come about when I was young. I used to play at home and my dad set the board up on the wall, but it was off-centre.

So I was always to the right of the board and it just stuck.

“I started going out and playing on the boards in the pubs and stuff, and it just felt natural that I was in that position because that’s the position I played at home.”

Bunting faces Luke Littler in the World Championship semi-finals tonight.

He progressed to the last four after beating Peter Wright on Wednesday.

The Bullet took a 4-0 lead in the match before his opponent made a push to fight back.

However, he took the seventh set to win 5-2 at Ally Pally.

After the match, Bunting said: “In the back room, I felt really nervous. Peter Wright is a massive friend of mine and my son’s favourite player. So, I feel for my son.

“I knew the crowd would turn pivotal. I am so happy to get over the line. For the four sets, the crowd were unreal but must do better!

“I was in control of the game, Peter came back into it, and I thought: ‘Refocus, don’t let myself down.’ Each and every game, I have focused on one opponent.

“I hope that is the nervy one out of the way. The crowd were unbelievable again. Let’s go Bunting Mental!

“I practised with Luke Humphries three-four months ago and it has paid off for me, pitting my wits against the best player in the world.”
