Stephen Curry Names the Most Athletic Player in the NBA

The NBA features some of the world’s best athletes, but one player stands out above the rest: Ja Morant. That is the opinion of Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry, who named Morant as the “most athletic player” in the league when posed with the question.

“Ja Morant,” Curry said without hesitation during his recent participation at Good Good Golf, via WarriorsTalk.

“I think, pound for pound, he’s the most athletic dude in the league. Russell Westbrook when he was full prime Russ. John Wall. We always talk about those guys as being the most athletic in the league.”

Curry then explained why the likes of Morant, Westbrook, and Wall are more than “just dunkers” due to their ability to run up and down the court, stop on a dime, and go off in any direction. He acknowledged that skill is another form of athleticism.

“I would put myself in that category,” he said. “I had to overcome the lack of athleticism because I didn’t have none of that. So, I had to pick up skills to [overcompensate].”

Ja Morant Predicted to Have Big Season

The Grizzlies star appeared in only 50 games in the 2024-25 season, a year after missing 72 games due to a suspension and injury. All in all, Morant has missed a whopping 125 games over his past three seasons, earning the reputation of being unreliable and injury-prone.

Many analysts predict Morant will have a bounce-back season in 2025-26, which could prove to be his last in a Grizzlies uniform unless he gets his act together. Grizzlies legend Zach Randolph has not given up on Morant’s ability to lift the franchise.

“Ja, he’s a special player,” Randloph on “The Big Podcast with Shaq,” via SportsRush.

“I always say he’s special. We need him in Memphis. That’s the city, that’s the team [he’s] everything. He’s one of the best players in the NBA right now. I just think [because of] the things he been through, I just tell him, you going to be all right. Just keep your head up.”

Quiet Offseason? Stephen Curry Unconcerned

Randolph then urged Morant to “prove everybody wrong” by putting together a stellar season and reclaiming his place among the NBA’s best young players.

Meanwhile, the Grizzlies’ conference rivals, the Warriors, have been among the quietest teams in the 2025-26 offseason, with zero free agency signings to boot.

The Warriors had only nine confirmed roster spots as of July 18, and that’s including restricted free agent Jonathan Kuminga. Despite the quiet offseason, Stephen Curry is not worried about his front office’s ability to put together a competitive roster.

“The narrative outside versus the narrative inside might not always be the same,” Curry told NBC Sports Bay Area’s Monte Poole of the offseason. “We talk. We have communication. I know what’s going on to the point where I have a lot of confidence in our ability to put together a winning team next year. That’s all I want.”

Many believe the Warriors made their big move by acquiring Jimmy Butler III at the 2025 NBA trade deadline.
