The Golden State Warriors wrapped up their preseason with a narrow loss to the Los Angeles Clippers, but the real storyline was who didn’t play.
Both Jimmy Butler and Jonathan Kuminga sat out the preseason finale, raising concerns just days before opening night. Butler had been listed as doubtful due to an ankle injury, while Kuminga was held out after tweaking his right ankle.
Fortunately for the Warriors, neither absence appears to be serious. After the game, Steve Kerr offered a reassuring update.
“Jimmy Butler and Jonathan Kuminga both got workouts in prior to the game today. Steve Kerr said he expects both to practice on Sunday and Monday and be available on Tuesday night for the season opener in LA against the Lakers.”

It’s welcome news for a team that’s been managing multiple injuries through training camp.
Warriors Juggle More Injury Concerns
The Warriors have dealt with injuries all month. Along with Jimmy Butler and Jonathan Kuminga, third-year guard Brandin Podziemski briefly gave fans a scare on Friday night when he went down hard.
He was later diagnosed with a left hip contusion but returned to the game — a big relief for a player expected to play major minutes this season.
The Warriors expect Butler, Kuminga, and Podziemski to be available for opening night against the Los Angeles Lakers. Still, two other key players are unlikely to suit up.
Warriors Still Without Moody and Melton
Moses Moody continues to recover from a calf injury that’s kept him sidelined since October 8. Steve Kerr said he’s doubtful for Tuesday’s opener, which could push the Warriors to rely more on their veteran backcourt early. He’s yet to rejoin team practices as he continues his recovery.
De’Anthony Melton is also still working his way back from ACL surgery last December. He hasn’t appeared in a preseason game and is expected to miss the start of the regular season. Anthony Slater reported that Melton is progressing but not yet cleared for full activity.
The Bigger Picture for Golden State
The Warriors enter the regular season banged up, but not broken. Draymond Green will anchor the defense. With LeBron James sidelined for opening night, Golden State has a real chance to set the tone early.
Health will be a storyline all year. For now, Steve Kerr’s updates suggest the Warriors are in better shape than expected — and ready to chase another deep playoff run.
