The bad luck for the Phoenix Suns and Jalen Green continues.
Phoenix Suns guard Jalen Green exited Saturday’s 114–103 win over the Los Angeles Clippers after appearing to re-aggravate his right hamstring late in the first quarter. He pulled up on a drive with a little over 40 seconds left, limped through the remainder of the possession, and needed help to the locker room. The Suns later ruled him out.
Green played seven minutes and had two points before leaving. It was only his second game back on the court after having dealt with the injury throughout the preseason and early block of the season.
The win completed a two-game sweep over the Clippers in three days and pushed Phoenix back to .500. Devin Booker nearly had a triple-double to pace the Suns.
How It Happened
The setback occurred in the final minute of the opening quarter. Green drove, pulled up short, and immediately grabbed at his right hamstring. Trainers evaluated him on the bench before escorting him to the back. He did not return. Courtside video showed Green wincing as he left the floor.
“You just feel for him,” Suns coach Jordan Ott told Duane Rankin. “He worked so hard to get back.”
Phoenix still controlled the game, building an 18-point lead in the third quarter and holding off a late Clippers push. Ivica Zubac led Los Angeles with 21 points and 15 boards, but Booker and the Suns’ supporting cast closed it out.
Recent History With the Injury
Green has managed the same right hamstring since training camp, then aggravated it during the Suns’ preseason trip to China. The issue cost him the first eight games of the season. He returned on Thursday and erupted for 29 points in Phoenix’s 115-102 win over the Clippers, flashing instant chemistry in his debut. Saturday’s reaggravation clouds that momentum.
Why It Matters for Phoenix
GettyJalen Green is expected to be a major part of the Suns’ offense — if he can stay healthy.
The Suns acquired Green in the offseason blockbuster that sent Kevin Durant to Houston. The front office bet on Green’s shot creation and transition scoring to reset the offense around Booker and veteran shooting threats. Any extended absence would slow that integration and force coach Jordan Ott to lean more on Grayson Allen and Dillon Brooks for on-ball reps.
In his debut, Green’s six 3-pointers and downhill pressure opened the floor, especially in third-quarter runs where Phoenix separated. That version of the offense – spacing, pace, and quick-hitting drive-and-kick sequences – is the vision for this retooled roster. If the hamstring lingers, Phoenix may pivot to more Booker-centric pick-and-rolls and staggered lineups to preserve spacing.
What’s Next
The Suns did not immediately provide a postgame timeline for Green. Hamstring injuries can be unpredictable; Phoenix has already taken a conservative approach after the preseason flare-up. Expect an update after imaging and treatment evaluations back in Arizona. The team is expected to establish a more concrete timeline for Green’s return to the court, and reveal exact imaging results from the injury.
The Suns next take on the New Orleans Pelicans in Phoenix on November 10. It opens a stretch in Phoenix where the Suns play three of their next four games at home.
