Tennis star Taylor Fritz is the last American standing at the 2025 U.S. Open in New York. Fritz is also the highest-ranking American (No. 4) playing in the tournament.
The 27-year-old punched his ticket to the quarterfinals after a dominant win over Tomas Machac. In one hour and 38 minutes, he made a statement with a 6-4, 6-3, 6-3 victory. Unfortunately for Fritz, he now needs to defeat Serbian superstar Novak Djokovic to move on to the semifinals.
Fritz entered the match 0-10 against Djokovic in his career. “The thing is, I think it’s spanned over so many years,” Fritz said of facing the 24-time Grand Slam champion, per ESPN.
“The first almost seven or eight times I played him, I probably just wasn’t a good enough player to really have that much of a chance unless I have the best day ever and he has a bad day. Only the last couple times we’ve played, I think, I’ve been this just better player that can, I’d say, compete and have chances.”
Cheering Fritz on at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York, his girlfriend of five years, Morgan Riddle. When Riddle first met Fritz on Raya, a dating app, she knew nothing of tennis. By 2023, The New York Times dubbed Riddle, “The Most Famous Woman in Men’s Tennis.”

During Fritz’s primetime match against Djokovic, the camera keeps showing Riddle, who’s garnered 474,000 followers on Instagram. While not everyone is a huge fan of the fashion influencer, whether it be for her politics or simply being a WAG, Riddle sent a clear message to the haters.

In an interview with Vogue published on Tuesday, Riddle said it took awhile for her to get used to WAG life. Due to her vocation at the time, “I was very private for the first two years of our relationship. I was working in nonprofits for children in hospitals,” the Minnesota native said.
As her public profile grew, Riddle stood by her values, which included endorsing Kamala Harris ahead of the 2024 election. “I don’t know if it was ever really a decision. I came from a very liberal family. My sister is LGBTQ. My little brother relies on Medicaid—he has autism. My mom works in public media,” she said.
“People in my life are affected by [conservative policies]. I’ve always been very outspoken on my social media. I think it’s just now that I have a bigger platform. People are like, ‘Why are you getting political now?’ I’ve always been like this.

“Of course I get DMs from really angry Republican women who like tennis, but it’s not a loss in my mind. I wouldn’t be friends with them in real life. I don’t really care if they’re following what I do online.”
Riddle noted that “there’s still a lot of negativity around” being a WAG, as well. “I know that because I see misogynist comments—always from idiot men. I do think there’s more visibility on what girls are doing outside of just attending their partners’ matches.”

Riddle sat front and center in Fritz’s box as he battled against Djokovic. In addition to his girlfriend, Fritz is hoping to have the full support of the U.S. crowd.
“It’s been a tough week for the guys. I guess I wasn’t expecting everything to happen,” Fritz said of being the last American in competition. “I felt really, really good about our chances this week, but I’m happy to be here. I’m happy to be the last one standing at least and hopefully since I’m the last one the crowd will really get behind me and will me through it.”
Unfortunately, Fritz couldn’t get it done. Djokovic won 6-3, 7-5, 3-6, 6-4 in three hours and 24 minutes.
