On Sunday, January 4, Travis Kelce and the Kansas City Chiefs played their final game of the season against the Las Vegas Raiders on the road. The Chiefs had a 6-10 record going into the game, and the Raiders were are 2-14 for the season, so both teams were out of the postseason before they hit the field. Taylor Swift was supporting her future husband Kelce, but she wasn’t spotted at the game, so she was likely watching from home.
But, even with no stakes in this game, it was a special one for Kelce. After the Kansas City Chiefs’ season wraps up, he’ll have to make a decision about whether or not to retire. Kelce has played 13 seasons in the NFL, all of them with the Kansas City Chiefs, according to ESPN research, following being drafted by the Chiefs in 2013. That’s a long career for a player in the NFL, and it will mark a big decision whether or not he stays.
Now, amid the Chiefs’ and Kelce’s season finale, Swift has received some historic news of her own. Swift released her 12th studio album, “The Life of a Showgirl,” on October 13, and that album is the gift that keep giving.

On Sunday, January 4, the same day as the Kansas City Chiefs’ final game of the 2025-26 season, news emerged that Swift has extended her record as the solo artist with the most cumulative weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, now with a total of 98 weeks, according to research from Ratings Game Music.
“According to chart data, Taylor Swift remains firmly planted at No. 1 with ‘The Life of a Showgirl,’ pulling in 81,000 units and marking her 12th consecutive week at the top,” Ratings Game Music states in the piece out on the same day as the game.
They add that “this week’s Billboard 200 paints a clear picture of where the music industry currently stands: longevity beats novelty.”
For the week dated January 11, 2026, “The Life of the Showgirl” with 81,000 equivalent album units in the United States in the week ending January 1, which was down 42%, according to Luminate research, and as reported by Billboard.
Travis Kelce Has a Retirement Decision to Make
So, will Kelce step down after this season? That’s the question on everyone’s minds after the team’s Week 18 game.
“I think I’m still searching for those answers,” Kelce said before the Chiefs’ December 25 game in a pre-recorded interview that aired on Amazon’s Prime Video. “Obviously, the way this one ended with a sour taste in my mouth.”
Kelce added of his decision, “I feel motivated but I’ve got to make the right decision for me. I’ve got to hope that if I do wanna come back that the Chiefs are willing to bring me back. It’s a two-way street on that.”
So, the Chiefs and head coach Andy Reid have to look forward to 2026-27. They’ll either move ahead with Kelce back in the squad or with his support from retirement.
