Taylor Swift Gets Big News Before Chiefs-Jaguars Game

The Kansas City Chiefs are under the spotlight for Monday Night Football on October 6, and they’ll be up against the Jacksonville Jaguars. What’s wild is that the Jaguars have a better record than the Chiefs going into this game, because they’re 3-1 and the Chiefs and 2-2, but if the Chiefs have it their way, that will change in favor of Kansas City by the time Monday evening ends.

The Kansas City Chiefs have been sharing photos and videos of their team touching down in Florida ahead of the game, and tight end Travis Kelce is there. His soon-to-be-wife Taylor Swift doesn’t usually show up at away games due to security reasons, plus she’s on the road, promoting her new album, “Life of a Showgirl,” so she probably won’t be there.

“Life of a Showgirl” dropped last Friday, and it has a song on it that appears to be all about Kelce, called “Wood.” It’s a bit of a romantic song, but Swift is all grown up now, so she can sing about more than just getting bullied in high school. Now, Swift is getting some good news since the release of her album, and it’s spilling into this week.

Good News for Taylor Swift

Swift’s album is out, and the reviews, for the most part, are really glowing. She doesn’t need the kudos at this point, but it must still feel good to get some great press about the set.

“Taylor Swift’s ‘The Life of a Showgirl’ combines new, exciting sonic turns with incisive storytelling,” Rolling Stone says in its review of the album. Maya Georgi of Rolling Stone adds, “On her 12th studio album, Swift hits all her marks — from new, exciting sonic turns to incisive storytelling.” It means a lot to get such a glowing review from Rolling Stone, one of the biggest music publications in the world.

Pitchfork says in their review of the set that while much of the album “sounds like much of the pop music you have heard over the past 10 years and throughout your lifetime; it asks that this time, you listen more closely, because this is Taylor Swift, with the enormity of commercial power and cultural significance and algorithmic rank that implies.”

They add, “‘In my industry, attention is affection,’ Swift says in her video commentary introducing ‘Actually Romantic.’ That’s the showgirl’s job: making you pay attention. It’s working, and if this is the only pop album you hear this year, maybe it’s good enough.”

Bad Reviews Don’t Matter

Not all of the reviews were so glowing, but that doesn’t matter. As the BBC point out, “tepid reviews didn’t matter. Spotify declared it their most-streamed album in a single day. In the UK, it enjoyed the biggest first-week sales in seven years. Right now, it seems nothing can damage Swift.”

Billboard adds, “The limit does not exist to how high Swift can keep soaring — anytime her downfall (or even a notable downturn) has been predicted, she climbs higher and winks at her naysayers. By pivoting back to pop anthems with humor, empathy, a little fury and a lot of wisdom, Swift ensures that ascent will continue.”

The Kansas City Chiefs‘ next home game is against the Detroit Lions on Sunday, October 12, so it’s likely that Swift will be there, since it’s a home game.
