During a behind-the-scenes conversation filmed ahead of an October 2024 Eras Tour stop in New Orleans, Andrea recalled how she first learned about Kelce’s interest in her daughter.
“I was looking around on the internet,” Andrea, 67, explained, noting the headlines that followed Kelce’s viral “New Heights” revelation. Curious, she reached out to a cousin she considers an expert on the Chiefs to ask about the Super Bowl champion.
Andrea shared what she learned with her daughter, telling Swift, “Oh my God. He’s the nicest guy. And you know what? He really loves his mom, Donna Kelce.”
That detail stood out. “I went, ding, ding, ding,” Andrea said, recalling the moment she realized Kelce might be different from Swift’s past partners. Swift agreed, joking that her dating history had leaned heavily toward “non-athlete.”
Andrea also admitted she needed to tread carefully when bringing the subject up. “You called me up with this tone of, ‘Hey, so I know you’re not gonna react well to this. But there’s a guy,’” Swift remembered. Her mom encouraged her to try something new, telling her, “You’ve got to start doing something different.”
One gesture sealed Andrea’s approval: Kelce attending Swift’s show with a friendship bracelet that included his phone number. “It was so earnest,” Andrea said. “I thought it was the sweetest thing in the world.”

“The way that he just comes to life when the lights are the brightest, people talk about that all the time with him,” Swift, 36, said of Kelce, also 36. “They’re like, ‘The moment’s never too big for Travis. The lights are never too bright for Travis.’”
Swift also shared how the cameo came together. “I was like, ‘If you’re serious about this, I will send your measurements to wardrobe and they’ll get you a tux. Are you serious?’” she recalled. Kelce’s response was immediate: “Put me in.”
Elsewhere, Swift opened up about balancing her tour with the secret creation of record-breaking album “The Tortured Poets Department.” She explained how the team built a top-secret rehearsal space to add new songs without risking leaks.
“When we had done the first half of the tour, what the fans didn’t know was that I was writing a brand-new album,” Swift said. “We had to create a brand new era to put into the show.”
Swift and Kelce officially began dating in July 2023, went public in September of the same year, and the NFL star proposed in August.
