Team Kuchar Claims Emotional Win at PNC Championship

The PNC Championship took place this weekend in Orlando, Florida, bringing together some of golf’s most recognizable names alongside their family members. Played at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club, the annual event once again highlighted the unique blend of competition and connection that sets it apart from the rest of the golf calendar.

By the end of the two-day tournament, one team stood above the field. Matt Kuchar and his son Cameron delivered a dominant performance, capturing the 2025 PNC Championship and etching their names into the event’s history with a record-setting showing.

Dominant Performance Sets New Standard

Matt and Cameron Kuchar crushed the field. The father-son duo fired a final-round 18-under-par 54, one of the lowest rounds in the event’s long history, to finish at an astonishing 33-under-par total. That score shattered the previous tournament record by five strokes and earned them a seven-shot victory margin over the nearest competition.

Their opening round set the tone for the weekend. Team Kuchar burst out of the gate with a low 57, building a lead early and maintaining control through both days of competition. Consistent ball striking, savvy strategy in scramble play and flawless execution on birdie opportunities kept them well ahead of challengers from start to finish.

Cameron’s contributions, especially with his short game and timely putts, helped the pair distance themselves from seasoned teams led by Davis Love III with son Dru and John Daly with son John Daly II, who both finished well behind Team Kuchar at 26-under-par.

“I wasn’t keeping as much track today as I was yesterday, but I probably made five or six solo birdies,” Cameron said. “Every now and then, I would let him know, all right, I made that one myself. But he also made a few solos, and he’d come right back and he’d go, ‘That was all me right there.’ ”

Emotional Triumph for Matt Kuchar

While the scoring records and dominant play were impressive, the most compelling storyline of the week came from Matt’s emotional journey. In February 2025, he lost his father Peter, a presence who had often accompanied him at tournaments and played alongside him in past PNC Championships.

“It’s pretty magical, and again, you go back to those things, if you believe in karma or fate or something greater from above, there’s got to be something else going on,” Matt said.
“I know that I feel confident in my game, certainly his [Cameron] game. I keep seeing him improve and improve and it’s so fun for me to see him continue to get better, and for him to put on a show when it really matters when cameras are out. I don’t think he’s been on a stage. He’s played in some big junior events but certainly when you get on a national scene like this, it’s unique and he rose to the occasion in a big way.”

Cameron, who is headed to Texas Christian University to play collegiate golf,  echoed the sentiment, celebrating not just the win but the bond he shares with his father and the memories they continue to build through the game.

“I was lucky today,” Cameron said. I just putted really, really well, and when I missed my dad would back me up.”

A Showcase of Family and Tradition

The PNC Championship has long been cherished for its blend of golf excellence and intergenerational connection. This year’s event again highlighted the joy of family involvement– from seasoned champions mentoring their children to relatives sharing moments that transcend scorelines. Teams like Steve Stricker and daughter Izzi Stricker, as well as Nelly Korda and her father Petr, added depth and charm to the leaderboard with strong performances.

Despite notable absences, including Tiger Woods and son Charlie (inactive due to Tiger’s recovery), the field offered a rich mix of experience and youthful promise, with the family scramble format creating a festive atmosphere unmatched by traditional tour events.

“Certainly tough for me,” Matt said. “Dad is missed. I definitely got very emotional coming in, thinking about this moment and how much it would mean to dad if he were here.”
