Hey, Tennessee Titans fans, you got one! Yes, it’s true, the Titans managed to win a football game for the first time in 11 tries dating back to last season. On Sunday, they knocked off the Arizona Cardinals in wild fashion, but a win is a win is a win.
The 22-21 victory in Arizona was the franchise’s largest fourth-quarter comeback in a win since a 21-point comeback against the New York Giants in 2006. Do you remember that game? Giants‘ defensive end Mathias Kiwanuka does…Vince Young was right in his hands.
Titans‘ head coach Brian Callahan had to be excited because he now has a job for at least another week.
“Obviously, just really exciting to get a win,” Callahan said after the game. “To show that kind of fight in a game where we had to claw our way back into it. It was everything that we needed to see from our football team, and we’d been waiting to see for a couple of weeks now, the ability to make the plays when it mattered to help us win the game.
“Those guys fought like crazy. It was superb effort all the way around. It was awesome to see just the resilience of the team, the fight that they showed. … I’m really proud of the team.”
Tennessee Titans players relieved to finally get a win
As with any bottom feeder racking up the losses like the Titans have so far in 2025, there is going to be some sniping and complaining. After last week’s game, rookie quarterback Cam Ward described the team as “we ass.” Predictably, some of his teammates weren’t thrilled about that.
“Cam has the right to speak how he wants to speak to the media, but I had some advice for him,” defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons said. “I’ll keep that off the record. When these microphones are in front of you, they can blow up just one part of what you are saying.”
Well, it’s funny how tunes change when you actually win a football game.
“You can tell the energy around here,” cornerback L’Jarius Sneed said after the game. “Everybody is happy, felt like we’d won the Super Bowl or something. It felt great, and as a team we came in here and celebrated. But there’s more to do.”
And this week, Ward didn’t start his post-game comments with “we ass,” which is always a positive sign.
“It felt good,” Ward said. “A win, especially for my first one, in a game like that, it was a big-time win. The biggest thing is we have to continue to build off it.”
Tennessee Titans get the win on a crazy play
With just under five minutes to play, Ward and the Titans were down 21-12 and driving in hopes that this would be a less-embarrassing loss than the previous four. Predictably, an interception was thrown and it was back to “fire Callahan” stuff.
But, no! The Cardinals fumbled it and there was a “Holy Roller” situation sorta in Arizona!
Wide receiver Tyler Lockett was the one who fell on the ball in the end zone and scored the touchdown. He was the Titans’ Dave Casper in this situation.
“It was a crazy play overall,” Lockett said. “It was a scramble play. They always talk about keep running to the ball, you never know what is going to happen. I was able to dive on it, and secure it for a touchdown.”
And it led to a Titans win, which everyone should spend time enjoying because there probably won’t be many more of these for a while.
