Texans Add Former Titans Playmaker Amid Encouraging Roster News

Head coach DeMeco Ryans andThe Houston Texans are still refining their roster. That is particularly true with their defensive line. They lost two of their top rotation tackles in recent weeks. In their latest efforts, the Texans are tabbing Marlon Davidson.

KPRC 2’s Aaron Wilson reported on Saturday that the Texans are elevating Davidson, a second-round pick of the Atlanta Falcons in 2020, who has also spent time with the Tennessee Titans, to the active roster from the practice squad.

The Texans’ need for depth at defensive tackle is being filled from within their roster.

Davidson, 27, has 39 total tackles, 2.0 sacks, 2 pass deflections, 1 interception, and 1 fumble recovery in 24 career games. He has started four games in his career, but is a depth option.

“The Texans’ starters are Sheldon Rankins, who has no injury designation and 2 1/2 sacks and one touchdown this season on a fumble recovery, and Tommy Togiai, who has a career-high 1 1/2 sacks and 44 tackles as the replacement for Settle,” Wilson wrote in an article published on December 20.

Naquan Jones is the other defensive tackle in the rotation after joining the team off waivers last week from the Los Angeles Chargers. Denico Autry has the size and strength to kick inside from defensive end on passing downs.”

Davidson is not the only roster decision the Texans had make waves ahead of game day.

Texans Get Good News on Darrell Taylor

The Texans’ ranks have thinned on the interior, creating a need for Davidson on the game-day roster. However, their edge rusher group is expected to get one deeper.

“#Texans defensive end Darrell Taylor has made full recovery from ankle injury and is ready to go after being designated for return this week,” Wilson reported in a separate post on X on December 20.

Taylor is in his first season with the Texans and has 3 total tackles in four games this season.

A second-round pick by the Seattle Seahawks in the 2020 draft, he has also spent time with the Chicago Bears.

Former Texans RB Dameon Pierce Signs to Chiefs’ Active Roster

While the Texans are adding Davidson and, potentially, Taylor to face the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 16, a player they waived in recent weeks is also joining an active roster.

The Texans waived running back Dameon Pierce, a fourth-round selection in 2022, earlier this season. After a strong rookie season, Pierce’s role in the offense dwindled with each passing season. The Texans also continually remade their backfield.

He signed with the Kansas City Chiefs’ practice squad ahead of their game against the Texans.

Pierce did not get called up for that Week 14 Texans win. However, KC announced in a post on X on Saturday that, among other moves, they signed Pierce to the active roster.
