The Houston Texans are set to take on the Tennessee Titans in a battle of winless teams in Week 4, and they will have former New England Patriots defensive back Myles Bryant on hand for the contest.
Bryant joins a secondary in flux on a defense that has carried the load for most of the team’s games this season. However, the group has also had issues closing.
At any rate, Bryant brings plenty of experience to the defensive backfield.
Texans Call Myles Bryant Up to Active Roster For Titans Game

KPRC 2’s Aaron Wilson called Bryant “versatile” on X on September 27 before following up with a full report on the Texans’ latest move before facing the Titans.
“The Texans are elevating veteran defensive back Myles Bryant from the practice squad to the active roster for the second week in a row, per a league source,” Wilson wrote on September 27.
“Bryant helps fill the void created by cutting safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson and that decision pushing safety M.J. Stewart, a special teams mainstay, into the starting lineup on defense and off of kick coverage. Bryant is a special-teams standout who is versatile enough to play nickel, safety and outside corner.”
Bryant entered the league as an undrafted free agent with the Patriots in 2020. He is in his second season with the Texans. He appeared in their loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 3, logging eight snaps on special teams.
The Texans cut Gardner-Johnson at head coach DeMeco Ryans’ behest, with the former Tampa Bay Buccaneers second-round draft pick, Stewart, boasting 10 starts in 93 games played.
Bryant’s addition could impact other potential call-ups like D’Angelo Ross against the Titans.
Texans Get Good News About Derek Stingley Jr.

Bryant will bolster the Texans’ cornerback room against the Titans, too, but they got even better news with 2024 All-Pro and Pro Bowler Derek Stingley Jr. returning to practice on Friday.
It was a limited session, but it counts as marked progress. Stingley did not participate in the Texans’ first two days of practice. He is navigating an oblique injury that he initially sustained in Week 1 against the Los Angeles Rams.
It initially appeared as though Stingley missed practice on Friday, so the update is encouraging.
That was not the only good news the Texans’ final injury report of the week brought, either. Center Jake Andrews and right tackle Tytus Howard do not have injury designations.
Ditto for wide receiver Nico Collins, leaving Stingley as the only uncertainty for the Texans as they look to notch their first victory of the 2025 regular season. So far, the Texans have lost their three games by a combined 13 points.
Not All Good News on Texans’ Final Injury Update

Bryant’s addition and the final injury report aside, the Texans did have some unfortunate news about fullback Jakob Johnson before the Titans game.
He was placed on injured reserve with a hamstring injury, per ESPN’s DJ Bien-Aime, on September 26. Another versatile player, who could moonlight as a tight end for the Texans, Johnson also blocked a punt against the Buccaneers in Week 2 on “Monday Night Football.”
His loss is a blow to two positions, and the Texans were already thin at tight end.
The Texans just need a victory, with the aid of Bryant and whoever else can help them, and they must overcome challenges like losing Johnson to do so against the Titans.
