Texans Called ‘Ideal’ Trade Destination for Versatile Playmaker Before Deadline

The Houston Texans have not provided much information regarding Pro Bowl running back Joe Mixon. The longer that has remained the case, the more the Texans have been linked to potential replacements like Breece Hall.

Hall is in his fourth NFL season, all spent with the New York Jets, after entering the league as a second-round draft pick (No. 36 overall) in the 2022 draft.

Hall has expressed a desire to remain with the Jets, but he profiles as a fit with the Texans.

Marcus Spears Touts Breece Hall’s Fit With Texans Before Deadline

Spears fielded a question about which rival team would “make the most sense” for Hall before the November 4 trade deadline. He asserted that the Texans would be what ESPN’s social media team termed an “ideal” landing spot.

Not just because of Hall’s versatility as a dual-threat out of the backfield, but also because of the uncertainty around Mixon.

Hall would make a fine replacement in Spears’ estimation.

“I know the production of Breece Hall, his ability to catch the ball out of the backfield, the explosive ability in the run game, and some help for this offensive line, I think he would provide as well,” Spears said on “NFL Live” on October 28.

“I look at that spot with C.J. Stroud. You got a young quarterback, that you still hope that’s on the ascent. A really explosive black back that can give him a tremendous amount of options, not just handing it off, but passing it to him, I think Houston should entertain that, especially with the firepower that’s in the AFC that they gonna have to contend with.”

Spears’ intuition could align with what the Texans have planned under general manager Nick Caserio and head coach DeMeco Ryans.

Texans Expected to Pursue Trade for ‘Dawg’ RB Breece Hall

Caserio downplayed expectations for an active trade deadline, but did leave the door open for something to happen.

The Texans have also been linked to Hall already, with the deadline rapidly approaching.

“The name that comes up most is the Jets’ Breece Hall. He’s 24 years old and in the final year of his contract, and the Jets have made no move to sign him long term,” Graziano wrote on October 15. “There are plenty of reasons Hall might not be in the Jets’ long-range plans, and they could be open to a nice offer. Teams I expect to have interest in acquiring a running back ahead of the deadline include, but are not limited to, the Chiefs, Texans and Chargers.”

What that offer would be remains unclear, especially with Nick Chubb and Woody Marks in two. Still, Hall would be welcomed into the Texans’ locker room if there is a trade before the deadline.

Former Teammate Sends Strong Message About Breece Hall

The Texans roster a trio of Iowa State wide receivers.  Two of them – rookie third-round pick Jaylin Noel and 2023 sixth-rounder Xavier Hutchinson – were teammates of Hall’s there.

Hutchinson spoke candidly about being open to the idea of Hall joining the Texans via trade.

“Breece is just a dawg,” Hutchinson told Kay Adams on “Up & Adams” on October 9. “There’s no other way to really explain it. So, the more that you can add just dawgs on the team, you’re going to be better.

“You’re going to be in a better position to win, and you’re just going to – I don’t know. I’ll just be happy if Breece was somehow able to come to the Houston Texans. I feel like that’d be great.”
