Texans Deliver Critical Update on Nick Chubb Following Early Report

The Houston Texans got more encouraging news on Friday in addition to clearing cornerback Kamari Lassiter for Week 15 against the Arizona Cardinals. The Texans also saw Nick Chubb return to practice.

Chubb picked up a rib injury that forced him into an early exit from the Texans’ Week 14 win over the Kansas City Chiefs.

He not only reversed his trend from earlier in the week but also debunked a report on his status.

Nick Chubb Makes Progress in Texans Practice

Chubb logged back-to-back days of non-participation to start Week 15. Moreover, KPRC 2’s Aaron Wilson initially reported on X that the four-time Pro Bowler was not at practice for the Texans on Friday.

That led to a report from Rotoballer’s Keith Hernandez, which claimed that Chubb would miss Week 15 against the Cardinals after being ruled out.

However, a short while later, Wilson provided an update that Chubb indeed showed up.

“Nick Chubb has just walked out and is stretching on the side,” “The Locker Room’s” Landry Locker reported on X on December 12. “Just put his jersey on, is now in the area where injured players typically work in the side.”

The Texans officially listed Chubb as a limited participant on their final injury report after he logged a limited session on Friday.

Whether or not Chubb suits up for the Texans against the Cardinals remains unclear.

Chubb, who turns 30 on December 27, has rushed for 472 yards and 3 touchdowns on 115 carries this season. His status figures to have a significant impact on how the Texans deploy Marks against the Cardinals.

Texans Clear Woody Marks

Chubb’s return to practice is encouraging for the Texans. However, that rookie fourth-round running back Woody Marks will enter the weekend without an injury designation might be even more important.

Marks injured his knee in Week 14 against the Chiefs. He was forced out of the contest and began Week 15 as a non-participant in practice for the Texans.

Marks progressed to a limited session on Thursday before participating fully on Friday.

Marks has assumed the lead in what remains a timeshare backfield for the Texans, logging double-digit carries in eight straight games and nine of the last 10 outings. Chubb has not had more than nine rushing attempts since Week 9 against the Denver Broncos.

Marks has a 160-554-2 line on the ground this season, adding another 196 yards and 3 TDs on 20 receptions (Chubb has a 12-58-0 line).

Texans Bolstered Backfield

Cody Schrader, Los Angeles Rams

The Texans claimed fellow running back Cody Scrader off waivers from the Jacksonville Jaguars, with Chubb and Marks’ respective statuses up in the air to start the week of preparation before facing the Cardinals.

Schrader is familiar with the Texans’ scheme. He played for offensive coordinator Nick Caley with the Los Angeles Rams.

The Rams also have veteran and special teams ace Dare Ogunbowale.

Second-year former undrafted free agent Jawhar Jordan is on the practice squad. However, British Brooks is the only other running back who is on the Texans’ 53-man or practice squad rosters.

That underscores how important Marks and, even in a diminished role, Chubb are for the Texans as they continue pushing toward the postseason.
