Texans Get New Injury Update on C.J. Stroud After Decision

The Houston Texans will not have C.J. Stroud on the field in Week 10, when they take on the Jacksonville Jaguars, due to a concussion. However, the latest update on Stroud could bode well for the Texans.

Several hurdles remain for Stroud to clear before returning to the field.

According to the QB’s mother, Kimberly Stroud, he is progressing well and is eager to be back under center as soon as possible.

Stroud’s mother was appearing at an event for the C.J. Stroud Foundation, and she opened up with a heartfelt message of appreciation for Texans fans and everyone else who expressed support during his latest injury.

“I just want to thank everyone for their prayers,” Stroud’s mother told reporters in attendance on November 7. The outpour of love for my son has just been amazing. It really made me know that people do see him beyond the field. Sometimes you really just don’t know until something does happen. And there was so many people that wrote into the foundation and said just so many powerful words. And I just want to thank everyone, and he is progressing day by day. Of course, he wants to play, so. But he’s doing better each day. So, thank you for your prayers.”

Stroud hit his head on the turf when Denver Broncos cornerback Kris Abrams-Draine tackled him during his slide.

Due to the location of the hit, no flag was thrown on the play.

Stroud has completed 66.5% of his passes for 1,702 yards, 11 touchdowns, and 5 interceptions this season. This is the second documented concussion of Stroud’s NFL career. He missed two games during his rookie season.

Stroud’s mother posted that he was “ok” along with an image of the two of them together on the foundation’s Instagram page.

There is a five-step process players must complete once they are in concussion protocol.

After that, they must be cleared by an independent neurological consultant. Notably, and in addition to Ryans’ previous comments, Stroud did not practice at all during this past week leading into Sunday’s tilt against the Jaguars.

Davis Mills Steps In for C.J. Stroud

The Texans split the last two games Stroud missed, but they were able to turn to veteran Case Keenum. This time, it is Davis Mills who gets the nod for the Texans in Week 10 against the Jaguars in Stroud’s absence.

Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans let on early that Stroud was unlikely to play, and he gave clear instructions for Mills.

The former third-round draft pick threw for 137 yards on 56.7% completion against Denver.

“If Davis has to step in and play, we just expect him to go out and do his best,” Ryans told reporters after the loss. “Just play the offense the proper way, make great decisions with the football.”

Mills has not started since Week 18 of the 2022 season, but two of his five career wins have come against the Jaguars, who defeated the Texans in Jacksonville in Week 3.

The Texans will hope to get Stroud back for Week 11 against the Tennessee Titans.
