Davis Mills is expected to draw another start for the Houston Texans in Week 11 against the Tennessee Titans with C.J. Stroud still in concussion protocol. While that is not ideal, it is far from disastrous, with the fifth-year QB drawing attention from the NFL over his last outing.
Mills, 27, was the No. 67 overall pick in the 2021 draft.
With 26 starts under his belt before last week, Mills was able to draw from his wealth of experience in Week 10 against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Mills drew attention after popping up on the first injury report of Week 11 with an elbow issue, but he practiced in full. He completed 60% of his passes for 292 yards, 2 touchdowns, and 1 interception against the Jaguars, helping orchestrate a 26-point rally to get the 36-29 win.
That rally is what got the NFL’s attention.
“Never tell Davis Mills and the @HoustonTexans the odds [smirking emoji],” NFL Films posted on X on November 11.
Mills is now 6-19-1 in his career, with three of his wins coming against the Jaguars. He signed a one-year, $7 million extension this past offseason, underscoring the Texans’ faith in him to step in a deliver as he did in Week 10.
“I think our team had a really great week of practice. [Offensive coordinator Nick] Caley put together a great offensive game plan, along with the other offensive coaches, and we were able to go out there today and execute,” Mills told reporters on November 9.
“I think anytime you kind of start off a little slow, the mentality of our team is to attack every play with aggression, and just going out there to try to execute every play at a high level. So, we were able to do that. Coaches stayed aggressive. I have always had the mentality to stay confident regardless of what happened on the play before. It’s kind of like the old basketball mentality, ‘shooters shoot.’ If you stop, you’re not going to see shots go in.”
Texans Coaches Praise Davis Mills

Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans praised Mills for how he handled things leading up to and during the game in Week 10.
Mills notably had a 14-yard scramble for a TD that gave the Texans a 30-29 lead.
“Davis did a great job with his operation not only in the game, but show it showed all throughout the week. So he handled himself really well,” Ryans told reporters on November 10.
“I was confident that we’d make a play, and I don’t think anybody was expecting Davis to scramble and make it. But man, to see him step up, put the team on his back, tuck the ball, made a great decision. It wasn’t there in the timing of the play. He was able to step up and get in the end zone, and hats off to Davis for being clutch for us when we needed it most.”
Caley also praised Mills following his performance in Week 10.
“I thought, just poise, consistency, never too high, never too low, great command,” Caley told reporters on November 12. “Just really steady. And it’s exactly what he’s been ever since my exposure around him, and I’m sure well before me here.”
