Joe Mixon has not played for the Houston Texans this season. He has been sidelined with an undisclosed foot injury that has left his status for the entire campaign in doubt. However, Mixon is still locked in with his team.
The two-time Pro Bowler, Mixon, offered strong reactions during the Texans’ 26-15 win over the San Francisco 49ers in Week 8, most notably including C.J. Stroud.
And that was after Mixon drew attention to himself.

“Injured Texans RB Joe Mixon is at the game today,” the Houston Chronicle’s Brandon Scott reported in a post on X as Houston took on the 49ers on October 26. “Seen on the club level and now near the locker rooms.”
Texans general manager Nick Caserio said they are awaiting further clarity on Mixon’s outlook.
“I think, probably over the next few weeks, we’ll probably have a better idea. He’s making progress. So, I wouldn’t put a particular timetable on it,” Caserio told reporters on October 7.
“Over the next few, three, four weeks, probably get a little more information here. Kind of see how he’s progressing. But taking one day at a time. But I think once we kind of get to that period, probably have a better sense of which way it’s going to go for the duration of the year.”
The Texans have relied on Nick Chubb and Woody Marks in Mixon’s absence.
That may prove to be the most likely outcome for the Texans, who remain without a clear timeline for Mixon’s return amid a “complicated” situation.
“The initial outlook looked grim, a source told the Chronicle previously, and the Texans have been hoping his foot or ankle would respond to treatment. In a month, Mixon will have missed half the season,” The Houston Chronicle’s Jonathan M. Alexander wrote on October 7. “It’s not out of the question he could miss the entire season, though a final determination hasn’t been made yet. Mixon has been in and out of the building throughout the year, a source said.”
Mixon is in his second season with the Texans, who acquired him in a trade from the Cincinnati Bengals during the 2024 offseason. He is in the second year of a three-year, $17.5 million contract.

During the Texans’ win over the 49ers, Mixon took to social media to voice his support for Stroud, who was having his best game of the season. Stroud finished with a season-high 319 yards, 2 touchdowns, and 1 interception on 76.9% completion.
However, it was how Stroud accumulated his production that drew Mixon’s attention.
“THERE YOU GO 7!!” Mixon posted on X on October 26. “KEEP EXTENDING PLAYS MAKING IT HAPPEN BOI”
Stroud cited spreading the ball around as one of the critical factors to the offense’s success. He found second-year wide receiver Xavier Hutchinson five times for 69 yards and 1 touchdown. That drew another reaction from Mixon.
“YEAH HUTCH TMU!!!!” Mixon said in his first post on October 26.
Mixon also lauded Texans cornerback Kamari Lassiter, who recorded an interception in the fourth quarter of the contest, posting “YEAH YOUNG HOUND!!! #4”
