Texans Star Joe Mixon Breaks Silence After Insider Delivers Bad News

Houston Texans running back Joe Mixon has heard enough.

Mixon has not played this season, and speculative reports suggest that the Texans do not expect the two-time Pro Bowler back this season.

However, the Texans have not made that decision, at least not publicly. Mixon certainly has not said as much, leaving the former Cincinnati Bengals star to lash out amid word that his season may be done before it ever began.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported on X on Thursday that Mixon was expected to remain on the Non-Football Injury (NFI) list with his mysterious foot injury for the rest of the season, a notion supported by previous reporting on the situation and the Texans’ actions.

“Now, I get everyone’s looking for splash news & clickbait… but I’m just curious, Ian how do you know more about me than me? [confused face emoji],” Mixon posted on X on November 20.

“@peterjschaffer [Mixon’s agent] get yo mans bro.”

Mixon’s response harkens back to what Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans said about the matter, offering little information but defending the veteran running back against the types of narratives that, frankly, have been borne from the lack of information provided.

“I don’t … talk about the injuries much because I’m thinking about the player. It’s different for me. I played the game. So, I can see all the news and media that circulates on everybody speculating. Well, it’s not u speculating. It’s everybody who’s writing the stories are speculating. So, it’s more so of let’s not speculate if you don’t know the true information. And why is everybody so quick to find some story on a player when he’s dealing with whatever he’s dealing with? That’s his personal information,” Ryans told reporters in August.

“That’s Joe’s business, that’s whoever’s business, and don’t talk about it. Let him be at peace. Let him do what he has to do to recover and get back right to play the game that he sacrificed his body, time for. All these guys do that.”

Ryans later intimated that the Texans miss Mixon.

However, the third-year head coach was also not willing to dwell on the dual-threat’s absence, instead focusing on the available players.

“We’re rolling with the guys that are here. That’s the main thing,” Ryans said in September. “We miss Joe. Miss his energy and his enthusiasm, and everything that he brought to our team. But we continue to press forward. Hope he’s doing well.”

Joe Mixon’s Situation ‘Very Gray’

Texans general manager Nick Caserio’s recent remarks have loomed large amid the continued uncertainty around Mixon.

“I think over the next few, three, four weeks, probably get a little more information here. Kind of see how he’s progressing,” Caserio told reporters in October. “Taking one day at a time. But I think once we kind of get to that period, probably have a better sense of which way it’s going to go for the duration of the year.”

He later had to walk those remarks back amid a lack of additional details.

“I think that’s kind of how we’ve approached it. Look, it’s – I know we’ve been asked about this multiple times. And it’s not – I’m trying to be evasive. It’s just a very gray situation, and Joe’s worked at it. And there are times when he’s made progress, and other times when the progress just kind of stalled there a little bit,” Caserio told “Payne & Pendergast” on November 18.

“Players in his status, the situation, are on the reserve list until they’re not. So, Joe’s doing everything he can. Obviously, we’re getting pretty late in the game here. So, I don’t want to establish any sort of expectations.”
