Almost a full team of Arsenal and Real Madrid players are walking a disciplinary tightrope ahead of their first leg Champions League quarter-final at the Emirates Stadium.

The reigning European champions have travelled to the English capital to face Arsenal for a place in the semi-finals of the Champions League.

Following an underwhelming start to their Champions League defence, Real Madrid outclassed Manchester City and edged out Atletico Madrid on penalties to reach the last-eight.

Arsenal, meanwhile, thrashed PSV 9-3 on aggregate in their first knockout game of the tournament to move effortlessly into the quarters.

Mikel Arteta’s side play host to Real Madrid on Tuesday evening and taking a lead to the Bernabeu for the second leg feels imperative for an Arsenal team still yet to win the Champions League.

When do yellow cards reset in the Champions League?

Yellow cards reset after the quarter-final stage of the Champions League, meaning they are not carried over to the semi-finals or the final.

Even if a player was to receive a yellow card in both legs of the semi-finals, they would still be eligible to play in the Champions League final, which takes place on May 31.

Can Arsenal beat Real Madrid?

Real Madrid are favourites to progress in the Champions League but ex-Arsenal goalkeeper David Seaman says a win is ‘not beyond’ his former club.

‘It’s a real test,’ the England legend said on BBC Breakfast. ‘It’s where you want to be, you want to see if you can handle yourself.

‘Arsenal missed Bukayo Saka when he was out – as soon as he came back he had an impact. He has to start to have an influence on the team but he is fresh and looks ready to go.

‘Gabriel will be missed. He is one of our best players, him being out is a big blow.

‘The attacking play of Real Madrid is so powerful, we know we have to be at our best, but a win tonight is not beyond this team. When they all play at their best, they are very effective.’
