Six Arsenal first team squad players have joined Mikel Arteta in Marbella for a mini training camp ahead of pre-season.

The Gunners missed out on the Premier League title last term in agonising circumstances by just two points, despite having dropped points in two games from January onwards.

Arteta and Arsenal have been handed a tough start to the new season with games against Aston Villa, Manchester City and Tottenham to contend with during the opening six weeks.

In a bid to hit the ground running, a clutch of players not involved in major tournaments have flown to Spain to work on their fitness, according to CBS.

Jurrien Timber, whose debut campaign with Arsenal was ruined by cruciate knee ligament injury he sustained on his Premier League debut, is among those looking to make a big impression on his mananger.

Ben White, controversially not involved with England at Euro 2024, is also among the early arrivals, as is Fabio Vieira who appears to be in the last chance saloon two years after his £35million move from Porto.

The Portugal Under-21 international hardly featured in the run-in last term with Arteta said to have been unimpressed with his application in training.

A trio of Hale End Academy graduates who all face uncertain futures make up the group of six players who have begun work getting up to speed a full three weeks before pre-season officially begins.

Emile Smith Rowe, Reiss Nelson and Eddie Nketiah struggled for first team opportunities as last season wore on, and Arsenal are likely to listen to offers for all three.

England international Smith Rowe has been coveted by Aston Villa in the past, where the manager who gave him his Arsenal debut, Unai Emery, is now in charge.

Nketiah, meanwhile, is said to have four clubs chasing his services and Nelson is understood to have already inform Arsenal of his desire to move on permanently.

Arsenal skipper Martin Odegaard is set to join the group imminently.

The Gunners play Manchester United in Los Angeles’ SoFi Stadium on July 28 before meeting Liverpool in Philadelphia three days later.
