Aaron Glenn’s first year as head coach of the New York Jets has not unfolded as many had imagined, with the team posting one of the league’s worst records at 3–11.
Despite the lack of success under Glenn so far, the first-year head coach’s job appears safe heading into the offseason.
“While the record hasn’t improved — at 3-11, the Jets are actually a game behind last year’s pace — I’m told that “one-and-done” was never under consideration. Glenn’s job is safe, and agents around the league are operating with the understanding that his position won’t be open,” wrote Dianna Russini of The Athletic.
Glenn did not inherit a perfectly built roster that was already in “win-now” mode, and the organization understands that.
“The organization recognizes this rebuild will take time. This season has been about evaluating the roster, establishing a foundation and culture and trusting Glenn’s long-term plan,” wrote Russini.

Patience May Ultimately Be the Answer
Glenn has been a key part of a successful NFL rebuild before, serving as the Detroit Lions’ defensive coordinator for four seasons, and that experience could help the Jets turn things around.
“Glenn brings proven experience, as he helped the Detroit Lions transform from a 3-13-1 team in 2021 into a perennial playoff contender,” wrote Russini.
The season has also featured major midseason changes that hurt the Jets’ chances of winning games in 2025, as the team traded away star players Sauce Gardner and Quinnen Williams. However, those moves were a clear indication that the organization is playing the long game, stockpiling valuable draft capital for the 2026 and 2027 NFL Draft.
“New York’s midseason trades involving Sauce Gardner and Quinnen Williams were never about short-term wins; they were about giving this regime the pieces and draft capital to succeed down the line,” wrote Russini.
There is no question that how the Jets handle the 2026 and 2027 drafts will be pivotal to this franchise’s rebuild, as will who they bring in as the franchise’s next quarterback.
Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero of NFL.com wrote, “The Jets’ next swing at the QB position will be critical, with plenty of ammunition for GM Darren Mougey to work with thanks to those deadline trades.”

Players Talk About Glenn
The Jets’ first-year head coach is well-liked by the locker room, which is an important factor for the team to have a successful rebuild.
“He’s one of the closest head coaches I’ve ever had in my football career, as far as the conversations we have, the ability to go to him and talk to him about anything. I wouldn’t say he’s hard on me, he just believes in me and has trust in the fact that I can do a lot of great things in this league,” said tight end Jeremy Ruckert. (SNYJets on X)
After defensive coordinator Steve Wilkes was fired earlier in the week, veteran defensive lineman Harrison Phillips said, “I’ll start with how much trust I have in AG and his vision for this organization to win…it’s part of this league” (SNYJets on X).
With the locker room believing in Glenn’s vision and the organization willing to be patient, Glenn’s job appears safe no matter how New York finishes the regular season.
