This Could Be Mike McDaniel’s Last Post-Game Presser

What do you really expect Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel to say at this point?

The Dolphins got annihilated 31-6 by the powerhouse Cleveland Browns on Sunday and fell to 1-6 on the season. It was another embarrassing loss for a franchise whose cup has runneth over with embarrassing losses.

As one could imagine, McDaniel was more than a little testy in his post-game press conference.

“They wanted to f—–g win,” McDaniel said. “They did. And they didn’t do it, and it’s all of us. So I don’t think anybody’s spared from accountability. I think we all need to look at the mirror.”

Would it really surprise anyone if McDaniel just resigned citing his own sanity? Yes, his fingerprints are all over this mess, but it is kind of unbelievable the amount of these types of press conferences he’s had to endure.

He – again – was asked about his job.

“I find it very offensive to all parties if I’m thinking about having the job,” McDaniel quipped. “For as long as I coach for the Miami Dolphins and this organization, they’ll get everything from me.”

Mike McDaniel may have seen Tua benching coming

You can guess what kind of game quarterback Tua Tagovailoa had by just looking at the score. If you thought, ‘Gee, 31-6…Tua probably went 12-23 for 100 yards and three interceptions,’ you’d be correct! He was downright awful!

He was so bad that McDaniel decided to bench him for rookie Quinn Ewers.

“You turn the ball over, that’s the number one indicator of wins and losses and it negatively affects the team…just wasn’t good enough,” McDaniel said. “We’ll watch the tape and change our style of play if we have to.”

If you were paying attention, you’d notice that Tua was benched for Ewers, not Zach Wilson. Right before the game, the Dolphins made Ewers the number two quarterback today and Wilson was inactive as the emergency quarterback.

It sounds like McDaniel knew he was going to have to bench Tua at some point, and putting Wilson in would do absolutely nothing for the team. They’d be even worse, they’d lose and they’d still get no glimpse of the future. Almost makes you wonder if McDaniel is the one that made the decision.

What player(s) is Mike McDaniel talking about?

Remember that time (last week) when Tua called out unnamed players for certain behaviors? It caused quite a stir and he had to apologize or whatever.

Well, following today’s loss it sounds like McDaniel knows exactly who he was talking about.

“We found a different way to undo our game (on Sunday),” McDaniel said. “There’s a lot of guys that will have an important work week because if you are negatively effecting the football team routinely, I don’t have a choice but to assess a different player, and I have to coach a lot better as well. So we’re going to find out who and what we’re made of.”

I hate to say this, Mike, but I think you already know who you are and what you’re made of. And I also think you’re going to find out who you are and what you’re made of even harder next week when you play the Atlanta Falcons.
