Thomas Tuchel was not impressed with England fans at Wembley during the comfortable win over Wales, saying the ‘silent’ crowd made him sad.

The Three Lions dispatched Wales 3-0 on Thursday night, with all three goals coming in the first 20 minutes.

Morgan Rogers opened the scoring after just three minutes after good work from Marc Guehi to set up a crisp finish.

Rogers’ Aston Villa teammate Ollie Watkins poked home a second eight minutes later before Bukayo Saka scored the pick of the goals, curling an effort into the top corner from just outside the penalty box.

That was the end of the scoring as England missed a couple of chances before the break and then the second half was much more competitive.

Wales could have scored themselves as the home side seemed to take their foot off the gas a little and a load of substitutions on both sides took the rhythm out of the game.

Tuchel reckons the fans did not help in London, believing they could have got behind England more after the rousing start the Three Lions had produced.

The game petered somewhat after a wild opening and the England boss is blaming the supporters for that.

‘We had an excellent first half. We went 3-0 up very quickly but could have been 4-0 or 5-0 up at half time,’ he told ITV. ‘It was very, very good.

‘Then we couldn’t score the fourth or the fifth one. The stadium was silent. We never got any energy back from the fans and I think the players delivered a lot to get more from the fans.

‘It was difficult to keep everything going in the second half but we did excellent. We deserved to win and the next step in the right direction.’

Asked if he expected more from Wembley, the manager said: ‘Yeah. What more can you give than 20 minutes, three goals? And the way we attacked Wales and didn’t let them escape, even from their own half. Ball win after ball win after ball win.

‘If you then hear for half an hour just Wales fans it’s a bit sad because I think the team deserved big support today.’

On whether more energy would have seen more goals in the second half, the German boss said: ‘Yeah, of course, I think so, highly likely.

‘We had chances in the second half. Morgan and Anthony Gordon had two big chances. I think we could have scored

‘Then you need a goal to keep the whole thing going again. We tried to have some impact from the bench, it was not easy.

‘The effort was always there, so no harm done.’

Tuchel added in a post-match press conference: ‘I said the support in Serbia was absolutely fantastic, when we played last time in Serbia I said it and I meant it.

‘I love English football, I love English football fans and the support they give, but I think the atmosphere today did not match the performance on the field.’

England are back in action at Latvia in a World Cup qualifiers on Tuesday, with Wales hosting Belgium on Monday night.
